Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
I am 6' 7" tall and have always had packs that didn't fit me very well. I had been interested in Osprey packs because many of my more vertically challenged friends are very pleased with theirs. [...] I was disappointed to find that nearly all of the packs on the wall before me would not fit my torso. [...]It had many of the features of the more expensive packs and it FIT ME. Once I got the pack on the trail and got used to it I have to say I couldn't be more pleased. It is light, easy to pack and unpack and is very comfortable with a heavy load. I am very pleased.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
This pack is a great deal for the price, and is competitive with other packs that are 2-3 times as much! For an 80L pack it's fairly light when empty, and fits me like a glove. I'm also amazed at how small this thing can cinch down to when you don't need the extra space. If you want to be able to go on longer trips but still have a smaller, more agile pack for shorter ones, this is a great option.
That said, nothing's perfect - it has no bottom access or sleeping bag compartment. While light for its size class, it's definitely heavier than a smaller (40-60L) pack, so if you're an ounce-counting ultralight type this might not be the pack for you.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
We used only backpacks as our main luggage for our very recent holiday to Ireland. They fit very well in the overhead compartment on those longer flights. You need to close the waist belt before sending it through security because it gets caught on the belt as well as the plane seats when boarding. The other backpack that was used was an REI Women's Grand Tour. We wanted something simple so we could lug through airports and these were the perfect choice. You can lock them too and you can bet we will use them again. Cheers.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
This was by far the best backpack I had ever had on my back. I had a Deuter 60L on my back with 30lbs. inside and it was much heavier than this pack with 30lbs. I will never venture away from my new favorite pack!

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
This bag has several positive features, e.g., handy pockets on front of the waist belt, 2 large external pockets on sides (4 if you count the versatile slide-through pockets for poles/tools), great floating lid with 2 pockets, 4 mesh bottle pockets, daisy chain and ice-axe loop, strap on front for phone/radio case, side compression straps, big pocket on back. It's a top loader but has front panel access for getting to the bottom.
Negatives include no sleeping bag compartment and front panel access could be larger.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
This was my first, and so far, last pack purchased. At 5'9", 153lbs this pack fits great. I admit it took me several trips to adjust it to a perfect fit. Spend some time and get the shoulder harness adjusted properly and you'll love it! I usually do 3-day solo weekend trips with about 25-28lbs of gear including water. Due to the lack of a sleeping bag compartment, I strap it to the bottom which works out great and saves a ton of space for other items in the main compartment. I use the side pockets frequently – they hold much more than you would think. Every time I think they are full, I stuff more and more into them. The mesh water bottle pockets on the lower sides are a perfect fit for a 1-liter Nalgene, but a bit short in my opinion. I've never had one fall out, but an extra inch would make more sense. I can reach back and access them however without taking the pack off, so that's a big plus. The fabric and zippers have held up just fine after 4 years of abuse and still look new.
The only thing I don't like, although minor, is the zipper on the top section. I wish this was on the opposite side (on the front as you are looking at the pack). Since it's on the back, accessing this pocket is awkward when leaned up against or hanging from a tree. From looking at more recent product photos, I believe this has been fixed since my 2008 model. Unfortunately my older model also lacks the mesh zipper pockets on the waist belt...I would love to have these!!!
My last snowshoe backpacking trip was physically demanding, but this pack made it much more manageable. I was pushing 36lbs and still had room to spare.
I almost want something to go wrong so I have an excuse to get a new one with the updates, but I don't expect that to happen anytime soon!

Great bag for a decent price. Kelty makes a great product and has never failed me! This bad can fit a lot of gear in it and has great compression straps. the only down side to it is it's kinda heavy but it has never been a problem to me.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
I actually bought this bag for a friend of mine as a gift, but ended up trying it out for myself. I must say this pack is great. I am a large guy 6'4 250lbs, and the pack fit me like a glove, there were no comfort issues what so ever. It had a large cargo capacity for its size, as well as being super light weight. I ended up finally giving it to my friend and purchasing my own. The only thing that I wish what REI would do is add some strap management, this would help make it even more comfortable. All in all love this bag!

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
In the first few months of having this bag, I experienced the following problems:
- The seam for the lifting handle at the top of the bag started tearing in the first month.
- The sliding chest strap started popping off the rail and fabric on the bottom of the bag wore out in the second month.
- After 4 months, the shoulder strap buckles started slipping to the point that the tail of the strap had to be knotted for the pack to be wearable.
Bottom Line: If you go out a few times a month with lighter loads, this is a very inexpensive option. If you want something you can travel the world with or that will last you a decade, there are better choices.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 80 Pack:
I got this pack in preparation for an expedition to the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimmeron NM. I have been doing some practice hikes to get ready for the trip. I still have some frame adjustments to do but so far so good. I like the fit and the capacity.
On these hikes I have noticed that there is a need for some adjustments, but I do this to provide myself with different tensions and weight distributions. This works great, because I can do this without removing the pack. The two pockets on the waist belt are great. They hold items like my Camera and GPS.
The only thing that I do not like is the fact that there is no sleeping bag compartment. But if that was a deciding factor, I would have purchased a different pack.
I will have to get up here and write a more indepth review after my trek to give a good review. But like I said before, I am satisfied with it so far. Good pack for the price.
