Comments about Patagonia Hog Tie Shoes - Men's:
I mostly use these shoes for work. I work 13 hour days, sometimes standing or walking the whole time. I have also taken them on a couple of pretty rugged hikes through the Coastal Range in Oregon. They appear to be quite durable and hopefully will last a long time.
The shoes themselves are comfortable and don't hurt my feet after many hours of standing. They provide good traction on pavement, dirt, gravel, and boulders, though they can be slick on wet steel. But the insoles could be better. They feel like you're walking on the edge of the insole for the first month or so. Even after that, the insoles feel like they are too small for the shoe. But because the shoes perform so well, I have over looked this defect.
These are the best shoes I have owned in years, I may purchase again if they still have them when these are worn out.

Comments about Patagonia Hog Tie Shoes - Men's:
I put these shoes to the test by using them daily in a urban setting and for weekend and day hikes.
The grips of the Vibram outer sole wears down quicker than expected.
Parts of the material of the shoe (near inner aspect of ankle) tears easy.
These shoes and the Javelin (own both) are almost identical, and both are great shoes that can handle a decent amount of abuse. They are good for easy to moderate hikes (I used them at Grand Island, MI)Perfect for casual wear as well.

Comments about Patagonia Hog Tie Shoes - Men's:
Purchased the Snoutler, which is apparently now discontinued at REI. Shoe is identical to the Hog Tie, except that the leather on toe and sides is perforated. Bought these for a two-week trip to Europe where I needed a sturdy hiker for 70+ miles in the Alps, but also something stylish enough to wear in the cities and could not take two pairs of shoes. With the Vibram sole, they are surprisingly supportive and grippy for hiking and scrambling. The thick linings provided great wicking, and they were always dry and ready to wear by morning. Only downside was that the perforated leather areas allowed water in easily from wet grass and light rain, but the Hog Tie should not have this issue. I highly recommend this shoe, and you won't find anything else like it if you want a real, capable hiker with street-shoe appearance. All the alternatives look much more "technical".

Comments about Patagonia Hog Tie Shoes - Men's:
Great shoe but the toe box is wierd and thus easily blisters your feet if wore for a long time.
