Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
So I am getting back into backpacking after a long time out of it. I haven't bought anything new since the 90's and this was my first new tent since. It was perfect, much more than I expected.
I have only taken out for one quick three night 4 day trip to see how it preformed. I camped out up in central Wisconsin, in late summer early fall. When we showed up it was cool (mid-60's) and raining on and off, a light drizzle to a misty rain. We were able to set up the tent in between showers. It took about 10 min, but would be quicker next time. (I was explaining to the Fiancee, who never has been camping before, how to set up the tent and why in that spot.) Next time I am sure it will be less then 5 min.
The tent was roomy. I like having a lot of extra space, so I always buy a tent one person size larger than I need. I still could see how a third person could fit in and still have a decent amount of space for everyone. The vestibules were what I expected. Large enough for me to put a pack there and keep my boots dry at the same time.
As the night went on the rain got harder and the temperature dropped significantly. It down poured a couple of times and it got down to the mid-40's over night. The wind also picked up quite a bit. Everything stayed dry inside the tent and under the vestibules.
The rest of the weekend the temps varied between the lower 50's to the upper 70's. For the most part the tent was very comfortable through out.
My only complaint about the tent if I had one would be the windows. The windows are just mesh, no canvas to zipper them up, but I knew that when I bought it. This made the tent pretty drafty when it got really windy. The fly cut most of the wind but still you could feel a light breeze which isn't a huge a deal.
Also, something to keep in mind, is if you go car camping at crowded campgrounds the only way to have privacy is to have the fly on the tent and still there are vinyl windows on it. There are vents on the fly but they are small, and i don't know how well they will work when it is hot out. So, if that is the type of camping you do and want privacy keep this in mind...
Finally, I am really glad about the tent. It held up well and was tested far harder than I expected. It was significantly colder out than was expected and also wetter. But the tent kept us dry and comfortable. For a three season tent, this is perfect.
Also, something I didn't know is that the tent came with a gear loft. just so you know...

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
I use this tent car camping and backpacking in the rockies of Colorado. It's kept me dry in 3 days of rain and my gear stayed dry in the vestibule. I'm 6'4" 220 lb. and have luxurious room for sleeping, and my son too. I think it's perfect for 2 and their gear. Each of us had our own door and vestibule no water or mud got in the tent because we could leave our packs and boots in the vestibules before we came in. It takes maybe 5 minutes to set up with staking out. I love this tent.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
I love this tent. My wife and I were camping in Big Sur when a BAD storm hit. The tent stayed dry and there was enough room for us and our 90 pound german shepherd. Set up is a breeze and the attention to detail really surprised me.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
This tent is a good buy for the money and I weould recommend it unconditionally except for one problem. The fly has cords going diagonally out from midway up the edge, taking up a large area and creating a major trip hazard, especially at night. Kelty didn't help this situation by including black cord that is all but invisible. They could help significantly by switching to their own Triptease Lightline cord, which is yellow and reflective at night. If you buy this tent, get some reflective cord. Other than this, I like the design with doors on each side and adequate but not excessive vestibule space. The zippers appear to be snag resistant and there is an overhead gear loft and a lantern hook at the top of the tent. It is lighter than most 3-person tents in its price range. Overall, I highly recommend it with the one condition stated above.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
I got this tent for a trip to Philmont Scout Ranch. This tent fits two full size men very comfortable, we used this tent for twelve days, and through four bad thunder storms. The tent never leaked at all and always kept us dry, the only rain to come in was from bouncing off the ground under the rain fly and splattering and though the mesh and this was very slight and in a very heavy thunder storm. We split the poles, pegs and rain fly for one person, and the tent and ground cloth for the other, so we each were only carrying around 3.4 pounds. This worked great. Set up is very quick and easy, less than thee minuets if needed. The only hard thing about this tent was the snap at the end of the rain fly, wish the zipper just went all the way down, but always kept the boots and other equipment dry. Has a fairly large vestibule area on each side.
I would highly recommend this tent to anyone.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
I used this tent for my whitewater trips. it is super easy to set up and have never had any problems. The floor is a little thin. I recommend a tarp or a foot print to save on wear and tear. I think the design is amazing and the quality is excellent. I wasn't sure what tent to buy but I am totally satisfied with this product and would definitely buy it again.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
I was looking for a spacious tent for backpacking and car camping for my wife and I. We've used it many times doing both and have no complaints. When car camping we can fit a queen size air mattress inside and the vestibules hold both our bags. The vestibules keep everything bone dry. When backpacking there's enough room inside for us and our packs inside the tent. It's tall enough to sit straight up and includes the top net shelf (love those). It stays cool in the summer, cozy in the winter, handles rain and wind no problem, and we've had zero condensation issues. Set up and take down are super easy and quick. Get the footprint, it really helps to keep the tent clean.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
Good first impression with this tent, easy to set up, less than 5 minutes by myself and quicker with the girlfriend. We bought this tent to take backpacking and to use while car camping, it has a good compromise of weight and size. We have a 90lb shepherd/lab mix so we needed the extra few sq ft you get with this tent (4-7 sqft more than comparable tents) Fly works well, does a good job with the wind, havent had a chance to try it in wet weather yet. So far this is everything I need in a tent.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
This is my 1st tent, got it at an REI event sale & it has been well worth EVERY penny spent! It's super easy for a newbie to set up, had it ready to use in 5 minutes on the 1st try! Would DEF recomend getting a footprint, as the flooring is thin. Have used this in backyard w/ b'friend & son, roomy enough for 2 adults & kid. Used camping in terenchal downpour & stayed dry & warm. gear loft is nice but also has 2 pockets at either end. zippered doors never snag but not very private b/c they are mesh. this is not a concern for me but might be for others. The vestibule is big enough for 85 liter backpack & boots, everything stayed dry. Fly does have 2 windows but they got condensation when camping by water. I guess this is normal? but it dried off quickly. My only concern is b/c the mesh doors give a lack of privacy, the fly keeps hot air inside so in warmer weather, this tent does get warm! the vents in the fly helped a little but this would be my only concern.
Not to heavy, was easy to pack up & strap to back pack. looking forward to trying this on the trail, so far it's been back yard & car camping & has been great!

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 3.1 Tent:
I have only had this tent out on one backpacking trip, but so far so good. The tent is easy to set up and very roomy for 2 people. I'm not sure how well 3 people would fit in it, but it is perfect for two grown men. The tent breathes very well. There was no condensation on the inside of the tent in the morning. I can't wait to take it out again!
