Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
I bought this tent for my boyfriend and yet here I am, writing a review, because this tent is awesome! He did the research and picked a wonderful tent that is fairly light, super easy to set up, and big enough for the two of us AND two dogs...we think thats what the .1 in Gunnison 2.1 is all about - room for puppies. The first time I set it up was at a campsite in the dark, and yet I still managed to do it. We went on a weekend trip where it rained every single night and we NEVER GOT CONDENSATION! All my life I've been afraid to touch the tent walls in the morning for fear of getting soaked but not with this baby! It breathes so well that it stays dry through anything. The twin vestibules are also nice for keeping two sets of gear dry in the rain or just a handy place to keep your boots. We've taken this thing backpacking and car-camping, and in both situations it's a winner.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
Predecessor tent (Gunnison 2) is a solid performer. Have used it about 30 nights with zero problems.
Withstood a deluge at Philmont without a drop inside. (Enough rain to increase the level of nearby pond by four feet.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
This is the easiest tent i have set up in my entire life! it is so easy to set up, i was able to do it at night, without a flashlight (the moon was bright) while inebriated. the best part is, i even fell on top of the tent later that night and there wasn't any damage to the tent, only my pride had been hurt. i have been out it some pretty rough winds and heavy showers and it has worked flawlessly. the only gripe i might have is that it isn't the lightest, but if i was trying to go ultralight, i would just bring my tarp, so i honestly cant see why anyone would want to spend 300.00 on another tent just to shave off a few pounds.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
I've only used this tent by myself, so I can't speak to having two people in it at once. This said, I still think I have put its space to hard use. I often use it on motorcycle trips, so when I'm at my destination, EVERYTHING goes into it since I can't leave anything 'in the back of the car'. I am over six feet tall and have had trouble with some tents not accomodating my length while laying or my height while sitting. This tent has always been comfortable for me whether I was sleeping, getting dressed, tending injuries, drying out or trying to get in some reading during a hail storm. I really like the generous vestibule space since some of the stuff I pull off the motorcycle at the end of the day I really don't want in the tent with me (including ofttimes, the clothes off my own back). I've set this tent up in some nasty conditions, including the previously mentioned hail storm as well as at night. I would say it is among the top three easiest tents I've ever set up. (As a teacher at a school with an active outdoor program, I have set up literally hundreds of different tents so I consider myself an expert in this field.) As to weather-proofing, I have used it in snow, hail that looked like it had snowed, and once used it in a rain storm cell that lasted for four days and was accompanied by sustained winds of up to 30mph with gusts to 50. Because of the generous overhang of the fly, the tent body has never started to soak through, an experience I've had with other tents in long-lasting wet conditions. Despite the fact I had the tent set up with only six stakes, the wind never was a problem either. I believe that properly staked (unlike the way I usually do it) it could sustain a near hurricane. Contrary to its storm-worthiness, this tent packs up small and light. Even with its footprint, it does not take up its entire stuff sack, so I think the 'packed size' on the web site is a little too big (a rarity indeed!). As far as value goes, I can't imagine a better buy; it is easily the most tent for the dollar that I've ever had.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
I was looking for a tent that I could take backpacking, that was easy to set-up and would last for a while. After reading all of the reviews about the Kelty Gunnison 2.1, I took the plunge and was not disappointed. I think I've owned about 3 tents in my lifetime, and this one was by far the easiest. You literally place the tent on the ground, link the tent poles together, and snap it in place. Setting-up the tent (w/o the fly) will take you about 5 minutes the first time you do it, maybe even faster if you're not a camping newbie like me.
As far as spaciousness, it's big enough to fit two adults comfortably, but I wouldn't count on much else inside the tent. However, the rain fly does provide a significant amount of cover beyond just the tent itself, so you could at a minimum tuck in some boots and a pack on each side. The two door feature is really nice, so that my wife doesn't have to always climb over my when leaving the tent. Also, the bug netting wraps around the entire tent, so I'm sure that without the rain fly attached, you get a great view of the sky. I'm looking forward to lots of good trips with this tent!

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
I like this tent a lot because it handles rain without leaking.
It seems there was a little condensation on the underside of the fly ( I think thats normal ) but it never dripped or gave me any problems, so I guess thats not really a con. The low strip of screen is nice for airflow close to your face. The fly covers the entire tent well with space to put stuff under shelter outside the doors on both sides. Depending on how far out you stake the fly on the ends, rain may splatter under it and through the strip of screen, not bad just a little, it's almost not worth mentioning but I did anyway. If that happens to you just sake the fly a little closer to the tent on the ends. It also makes a difference where you set up camp. When that happened to me I was on dirt that got muddy and splattered. By the way I have the gunnison 2 which was the older version so the new one should be just as good.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
this is a great tent especially for the money. i am 6'5" and this is the only 2 person backpacking tent that i have found that i can actually fit it. it is simple to set up and the fly provides full coverage even in the heaviest rain. it is a little on the heavy side for backpacking but i wouldnt trade it for anything.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
I bought the old version of this tent on sale about a year ago and have used it over forty times. I have never had any problems with this tent that were a result of construction. I did however negelect to guy the fly out securely at the bottom of the tent. I woke up to a driving rain, a sagging fly, and wet feet. If set up by anyone more compitent than a total idiot (me) this tent preforms spectacularly. It is a tad bit on the heavy side but it more than makes up for it in solid construction and simple set up.

Comments about Kelty Gunnison 2.1 Tent:
We bought this as a first tent for car camping and light backpacking for a minimalist avid adventurer and an casual adventurer with a tendency towards fairy princess hands. The tent is plenty large for two and with some modifications kept us dry during two trips of heavy rain without winds.
Initially, we did get some moisture in the tent from rain splattering under the rain fly, but this was easily limited by draping the fly with a plastic bag to direct the run-off.
This was the first time either of us had used a backpacking tent and one minus the lack of clear instructions. We had to try a couple of times to get the fly appropriately centered and I'm still not sure we attached the guide lines on the rain fly correctly.
We were surprised by the inclusion of the black-mesh fabric that we assumed to be camp-lingerie. We found it lightweight, flirty and flattering to both of our bodies. However, when passing campers informed us that our lingerie was actually supposed to be hung as a shelf inside the tent, we were appropriately red-faced.
We're both under 5'9 and found it difficult to snap the rain fly from inside without getting muddy and I think the tent might be too short for someone much taller.
Personally, I would like a larger window on the rain-fly to stargaze after the rain showers, but I suppose some people prefer the privacy that a small window affords.
Overall this is a great beginners tent although I would recommend that newbies get someone at the store to demonstrate set-up. Since we haven't taken it backpacking yet, I'm not sure how well the fly would work to protect your gear.

I used this tent out of the box on a 3 day pack trip on the AT, Evening found us in the cloud banks, lots of condensation and the tent inside was dry, the vestibules are large allowed for all our gear to be kept dry as well. This tent is worked well and is well constructed...get this tent[...]
