Comments about Kelty Coyote 4900 Pack:
I took this pack on multiple day hikes as well as on a 80 mile trek through the Rockies in Philmont NM. The pack performed wonderfully, and was simply a joy to use. The detachable top compartment is actually comfortable to wear for side-hikes, even with a raincoat, small amount of gear, and 2 liters of water! I definitely recommend it for extended backpacking trips--we were on the trail for 10 days and I never ran out of room!

Comments about Kelty Coyote 4900 Pack:
I rarely use mine any more as I've almost become a "gram weinie" over the past few years since retiring as a Scout leader and wouldn't dream of carrying more than twenty pounds for four days any more, but I've got to say that when I was being forced to carry two of everything just because... Well, the Coyote was well up to the challenge of carrying over 60 pound loads at least as comfortably as any pack could. Sure, my knees and hips and feet would ache at the end of the trail and my back would be soaked with sweat, but my back and shoulders would be OK. The pack itself barely showed any of the abuse I put it through. The seams held without tearing despite overpacking and the the fabric seemed almost abrasion proof agains the granite of the high Sierras.
I highly recommend this pack to anyone starting out in backpacking or anyone on an extended trip of a week or more without resupply. And, if 4700+ ci of pack space isn't enough, YOU'RE PACKING TOO MUCH!!! Lighten up.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 4900 Pack:
I used this pack for a 6-month, round-the-world trip which included a lot of multi-day, outdoor mini-excursions. This pack performed beautifully! It held up to every kind of abuse from plane travel to mountain wear-and-tear. I've had 20-80 lb. loads in the pack and it was always comfortable and distributed the load well.
It is more comfortable for smaller torsos. It has plenty of pockets including a padded one for sensitive gear.
Other considerations: Make sure you adjust it very carefully before using. It is very heavy, but as a former soldier, I prefer durability to lightweight and this pack can outlive anything.

Great pack, but it would be nice if the side pockets were zipper instead of velcro.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 4900 Pack:
Took this product on the trail at Philmont, NM. Added 50+ pounds of gear and hiked for 11 days. It performed well. The straps that held down the top, extend to the bottom of the pack. That made it tough to adjust the pack straight up and down when extended fully out (which it was most of the time). If you need a good pack for a recreational teenager- this is it.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 4900 Pack:
Went on 7 day hike covering 15-17 miles a day and have no major complaints. There is no built in duck cover so if you are going into heavy rain you might want to invest in one. The price was amazing for such a solid pack. I will have this pack for a long time.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 4900 Pack:
Great pack for 2-4 days. The water bottle holders are massive and easily hold a 1 liter bottle. Lots of pockets and the front U shaped zipper is great for getting to gear. Here are the negatives: Not enoght external lashing points, the hip pads aren't thick enough to support more than a 45 pound load, and my back tended to get wet form sweat. But overall it is a great pack for the money.

Comments about Kelty Coyote 4900 Pack:
I'm a field biologist. I bought this pack for field work primarily because it was "cheap" and large. I have to carry a lot of stuff for work, plus food, water and shelter. Field work really takes a toll on gear but this pack has held up well. I wish it had a hip pocket. That would be useful to store field notes or a small camera. The hip belt is comfortable and very sturdy, which is essential on a pack this large. This would be a good all around pack if you're on a budget or taking an extended trip. I would recommend this pack to a friend.

Great pack for the money. Perfect for 2-3 night trips. My only complaint is limited anchor points to secure equipment to the exterior.
