The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
This is just as it presents itself: a no-frills stern-mount sturdy-enough non-pneumatic wheelset to get your boat to and from the water; REI has performed a service by offering it. The cart market is dominated by fussy, expensive fol-de-rol.
The stated weight capacity is optimistic to say the least; however, half that is plenty for the intended use. It doesn't fold nor easily disassemble. Removing the wheels releases 4 small plastic spacers. Assembled, it will fit in large rec boat hatches, taking up most of the space; it will not fit in any of my sea kayak hatches.
Wheels are minimal, solid rubber on a finned plastic disk without bushings or bearings. Perhaps the most annoying ramification is that friction between wheels and the aluminum axle turns it, rubbing plastic mounts along its length. As well, those spacers are sloppily cut, leaving 1.5cm lateral play for the axle to slide back and forth. Handling the cart generally means hands blackened by aluminum dust.
A stainless axle or stronger wheels would improve this cart. As it is, simply assembled from cheap materials, it appears to have a large profit margin. However, simply assembled of cheap materials is a good design strategy and this device accomplishes its objective reliably. Attaching it to a floating boat is a cinch; you can then simply walk it out of the water, clean, and almost effortlessly lead it home.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
I have used this cart for more than 3 years, and have concluded that I would be not be in paddlesports if it were not for this cart to help me handle the boat on land all by myself. It seems very well-designed and is so easy to attach and remove from my kayak. The cart even makes loading and unloading the kayak from my vehicle roof easy to do because of the stern mounting location.
The cart is so compact and lightweight that it stows under my rear hatch or under the deck. The wheels are bullet-proof and large enough to go over rocks, sand, or rough terrain when walking the boat to the launch. The sleeve bearings and spacers are such that they will not lock-up from sand and grit, and show no wear at all after frequent use for a long time.
The flexible, molded cradle conforms nicely to the shape of my kayak hull, and has never left any marks on the boat hull. It attaches on the stern, where the polyethylene boat hull is strongest. I just load everything I need for the trip into the cockpit and make one trip from the car to the water and back while carrying no more than half the weight of the boat and contents.
I think this is a great, useful product and can think of nothing that would improve the design or utility of it. I highly recommend it.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
It's helpful for single person to off & on load to your roof carrier. Rolls best on flat stable surfaces but also rolls well in sandy & small rock areas. Will tip your kayak or canoe over on angled uneven ground. You'll find your friends will toss their gear into yours to roll to the waters edge.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
We recently bought 2 of these carts & had the chance to use them this past weekend. The fit could've been a bit better, but they snugged up tightly & made transporting both kayaks roughly 500 yds to the water that much easier! I would recommend them to others.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
This is a great little kayak cart. It's easy to use and small enough so it fits on/in the kayak for short trips. I roll my 10' Vapor kayak 2 blocks using this cart and it works great. Since I don't have a place to store the unit once I get the kayak in the water, I love being able to just carry it with me in the kayak.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
I live close to the water, so this cart actually saves me time (and gas) to put my boat on the car rack and bring it down.
Installation is quick and goes inside my boat nicely.
The only recommendation I have is that it may use some padding on the inside that is attached to the kayak hull to soften the ride, since the wheels are hard plastic. My solution is a towel between cart and boat. Works well. Saves money.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
When the center of gravity is in the middle of the kayak, one can drag it easily. However this cart comes with short straps, and it can only fit at the END of the kayak. This means center of gravity is at one end of the kayak, and you must DRAG HEAVY AND HARD at the other end. You feel and carry the kayak weight at its heaviest; it is still too heavy for one person. What is worse is the wheels don't work well in the sanding beach and tend to get loose or stuck in the sand.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
Works well and easy to attach, however since it attaches all the way in the back, it makes for a longer turning radius than some other carts, making it difficult to turn tight corners in a garage or storage area.

Comments about Quantum Engineering Stern Wheels Cart:
We live a few blocks from the lake and I wanted an inexpensive portaging cart to roll my kayak to the water. For [$], this kayak cart is durable, light and stows easily behind the seat in both of my kayaks. It takes about 30 seconds to attach the cart to the end of your boat and off you go. It rolls well through gravel and grass too. I will definitely purchase another one for my other kayak.
