Pricey for a canoe cart

I have a 17 ft Coleman old school canoe so it's not light. Convincing the lady to portage back after a long paddle isn't fun for either of us so I looked into a cart. Lots of options available, and this seems to be not only the most expensive but heavy duty. Out of the box the instructions are all there including a link to videos to help set up. Overall the cart is well made, but closer to the 100$ value considering what it is. As mentioned in an earlier review the bars could be a little higher for canoes. Definitely center the balance and weight, you won't regret it. I could move it one handed with relative ease. My reason for 4 stars is the strap system. They seem to be solid buckle type straps that probably work excellent on a lighter kayak, but with the rounded shape of canoe they came lose on my test runs every time. I had a 2 inch wide rachet strap I secured in the middle between the supplied straps and with the extra tension feel confident it's staying with the canoe while portaging. Overall great cart, folds and fits nicely, but be prepared to think a little outside the box if you have a lager canoe.

This cart is so frustrating. The kickstand doesn't reach the ground and so the cart flips over every time I try to put the kayak on top of it. I contacted Suspenz and explained the situation and they sent two extra kickstand "feet" but it doesn't make any difference. Additionally, the second I lift the kayak up to deactivate the kickstand the whole thing flips despite how tight I've cinched the kayak down. If this is the way it is designed to be used, it's an entirely unworkable model.

Perfect for my Discovery 158

I live about a half mile from a creek that leads to the Maumee river. The creek itself I can see from my living room window, but the launch dock is about a half mile treck. Mostly paved path with a downhill section. I wanted something with a high enough payload capacity to handle the 87lbs canoe plus a 100+lbs cooler. Once you figure out the best way to load the canoe onto the cart it's smooth sailing from there. The quality feels pretty good. The coated steel frame feels nicely finished. Overall the cart justified the price for my use. I can toss the cart in the canoe and take it down the river, or lock it to our launch dock using a bike lock.

Bunker Extensions For Tire Rub Issue

I have an Old Town Sportsman 120. I found out quickly that with DoubleU Hull is a little too deep for the bunkers which caused the tires to rub the bottom of kayak. I called the tech support # and they let me know there were longer bunkers stands I could purchase to alleviate the problem. When they arrived, I installed them and haven’t had a problem since. It’s a great cart and heavy duty too…but do know upfront, if you have a deeper hull, you’re gonna need the longer bunkers.

Easy pull, good for paved and unpaved trails.

I have used this kayak cart 3 times thus far. Each time I walk about a mile to and from the river's launch/landing. I walk on a paved road most of the time and about a hundred feet on a narrow dirt trail with roots and small logs in my way. Once the kayak is balanced and strapped tight to the cart, the whole bundle is very easy to pull and control. Only thing I am still learning is how to fold the kick stand after loading the kayak. Each time I load up my kayak, I have to lift it from a side and push the kickstand by hand to fold it. Otherwise, grass or uneven surface prevents me from just kicking it in. Also, I have noticed that foam cushions may need checking and adjusting, so that the seam is facing down, and away from the vessel. I really like this cart overall. Its solid frame and sturdy wheels look like will last me a long time.

Happy with purchase

I purchased this cart for the Old town Sportsman 106 powered by Minn Kota. In a perfect world the adjustable support bars would be an inch or two higher, but this is because I want to mount on the very rear of kayak. This is just a preference as to how I want to store and load the kayak. Setting the cart in center of bottom or just behind the center is good with good clearance. I still have clearance on very rear set up just not as much. Strap cinches kayak down well. Do not forget to put kick stand up after first attempt to move it .. :)

Takes your back out of the portage!!

This thing is sweet! It literally makes portage effortless. There’s a slight learning curve, but only a small one when it comes to loading. I honestly feel like I could carry my mother in law on this thing!!

Not the best for portages

I purchased this cart as it appeared to be the best available for portaging a kayak. I took it to the Bowron Lake chain - 72 miles with 8 portages totaling 6.5 miles. I traveled solo with 80+ pounds of camping gear. I found the cart to be undersized with respect to width, length and tire size. The portages I delt with were mostly uphill and muddy. After emptying the kayak out of gear, placing it on the cart, and then reloading the gear in the kayak over the wheels, the cart tipped over multiple times on the portages. This could have been avoided with a better designed cart that had a larger base and wider tires. This cart probably works great for unloading your kayak from your Subaru and transporting it across the paved parking lot to the dock. .

Easy to use

Very happy with this cart. We use it for a WS Tarpon 140 and it makes the trip from vehicle to water super easy. We left all of our coolers and supplies in the kayak during transit and the cart handled the weight with ease. It has no issue on rough terrain. It’s a little bigger than we expected and doesn’t fit in the closed forward gear compartment. It fits easily in the rear open cargo area of the kayak though. Overall very happy with the quality and ease of use.

Not good for a small boat

I called Suspenz asking if the cart could be used for a sunfish sailboat and they said yes, but the reality is that the cart is way too small and light weight. It seems like a good cart, but Suspenz is overselling its utility for small sailboats.

Perfect fit on a Bonafide SS127

Been looking and reviewing different types of kayak dollies. And was skeptic on this purchase due to a review I read about on another site. It's built well, easy to assemble, and easy to use. Tie downs are extremely secure. Plenty of clearance hull and wheels.
