Comments about Kelty Red Cloud 5600 Pack:

A good backpack that can hold a lot and good exterior pockets for things you would need during the day. I am a Boy Scout and have used this pack for weekend trips and it works fine.

Comments about Kelty Red Cloud 5600 Pack:

I got my Red Cloud 4 years ago when my oldest son joined Boy Scouts. I have used on many monthly campouts and you can really pack it with unnecessary junk! Over the past year I have gone on several backpacking trips ranging from 2-6 days. While I had not been backpacking in a few years, I had spent 3 summers backpacking all over the Sangre de Cristo Mountains as a teen, and have since hiked portions of the AT. This pack is so much more comfortable and adjustable than my old equipment. And while Kelty may not be the innovation leader any more, it still makes quality gear.

This pack has more exterior pockets than most, and I like them for stuffing items you may want to get to during the day, as well as to keep things like fuel separate from my clothes, food, etc. Also like the lower sleeping bag access so that I don't have to unpack my pack to get to my sleeping bag. This makes the pack easy to pack and balance. There is lots of adjustability in the shoulder and hip straps. It is also easy to adjust the back pad for your torso size. All of this improves the pack's fit and comfort on the trail.

As far as the comments about the pack being heavy, I believe it could be a little lighter. But with that said, I think it compares favorably with comparably sized (volume) packs from the other big names. You really get a quality pack for a good price.

Comments about Kelty Red Cloud 5600 Pack:

I jam all my camping gear in this pack, whether its car camping or backpacking, sleeping bag, tent, cooking stuff, stove, etc. Works great. I wore a hole in the top pocket cuz my titanium cookware came undone, but it patched up well with a tent repair kit & rubber cement. Its very durable and very comfortable. It isn't the lightest pack around, but it doesn't matter when you jam it full of stuff!!

Comments about Kelty Red Cloud 5600 Pack:

I have used the Red Cloud for 5-7 day hikes in Yellowstone and the surrounding area. This pack can hold everything - two big side pockets, front access to the main pack, a huge lid. It weighs in at about 6 lbs empty so it is a little hefty from the get-go, but this Kelty is hard to beat for value and comfort for a pack that can hold 50+ lbs and still be comfortable to hump down the trail!

To big for some, I like the option to pack a full load. Could use a better hip belt system, maybe with pockets.

Comments about Kelty Red Cloud 5600 Pack:

I Have been on several extended Hikes such as Denali and Isle Royal and this pack has yet to let me down. Rugged constuction and fit has the quality of a pack with twice the price. Pockets are simple and useful. While it may not be as light as the expensive packs, the capability is matched.

Comments about Kelty Red Cloud 5600 Pack:

I have used the Kelty Red Cloud since I started backpacking and have never been disappointed. The pack holds up well to heavy loads, and has enough adjustment points to create a custom fit for just about anyone. Features like the dual access points to the main interior compartment, the daisy chain loops down the back, a detachable hip pack and a good number of pockets gives this pack most everything much more expensive packs offer.

My only real complaint is the sternum strap which is the least adjustable component on the pack. Other than that this is an excellent pack for the price. The cost to functionality ratio is better than any others I have seen on the market.

Comments about Kelty Red Cloud 5600 Pack:

This was a great purchase. The bag fits great (I'm 5'8'', female) and I can carry around 60-70 pounds surprisingly easily. I especially like the removable waist pack and sleeping bag compartment. I use it both for camping and traveling.
