Comments about ExOfficio Insect Shield Adventure Hat:
Wore this hat for the first time while canoeing the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone in south central Montana on June 2. While not as wide-brimmed as some hats, it does provide good sun protection. We fought 25 to 35 mph wind gusts all day and the hat's brim likes to "flop" around. Not the fault of the hat though; a more rigid would fix that problem. This leads me the one of my two main complaints:
First, the toggle used to secure the removable chin strap could be stronger. Really strong gust would lift the hat off my head because the toggle's spring is weak.
Second, the chin strap is looped onto a plastic clip which clips onto the hat. Unfortunately, the strap was poorly stitched onto itself and broke within ten minutes of wearing it. I expect more quality control from Ex Officio.
Regarding sizing, I have a fairly small head (6 7/8 hat size) and the S/M fits me great. I love the feel on my head as the elastic is soft and comfortable.
Considering my critiques of the hat, I love it. Most importantly, it's comfortable and stylish.

Comments about ExOfficio Insect Shield Adventure Hat:
Shapeless, remarkably ugly. Not only did every one of my travel companions comment about the hat, so did several random strangers. Lack of any breathability was a greater problem than I anticipated.
There's something in the edge of the brim that's springy (I guess to maintain some semblance of a shape), which makes it very difficult to stuff this hat in a pocket.
On the good side, the hat's shapelessness makes it easy to pack.

Comments about ExOfficio Insect Shield Adventure Hat:
This hat is light and comfortable. It protects from the sun and really keeps the bugs from biting. The bugs will still swarm around your head, but very few actually land. I would recommend it to avoid the Alaska bugs. The only thing I would change about the hat would be waterproofing. I was crossing a rope bridge yesterday, and a big gust of wind blew the hat off into the river before I could cinch down the cord lock. I am replacing the hat today!

Comments about ExOfficio Insect Shield Adventure Hat:
I bought this hat for hiking. I love that the brim provides a lot more shade than a baseball cap. I've gotten compliments on this hat's style. It's lightweight and doesn't make my head hot, even in full sun. I haven't been around a lot of bugs to test the insect repellant yet, though. It's easily washable, and dries fairly quickly.
