The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.
Rated4out of5byhylandforecastfromcomfy but a little too much like a sailI like the color, weight, and it's washable and folds flat for packing. It breaths well to keep my head from getting sweaty. What I don't like is the back tail is a little too long and drags on my back, and the side brims extend out so far that I have to keep the neck strap tight or risk loosing it in even just a light breeze. (my last hat did not have a side brim, and had side flaps instead, and stayed on much better.)

Rated5out of5bySoCal HikerGrrrlfromBest sun-protection hat out thereBest wide-brim sun-protection hat. The brim does suprisingly well in the wind. It can be worn loosely or tightened down when the wind blows.
Yes, it looks dorky. But, when I spend my days out in the sun in the desert or Sierra Nevada mountains, functionality rules - and that's the Sunday Afternoons hat.
I like that the outer part of the brim brim can be folded back for more view of the sky, but then I can fold it back into place when the sun shines stronger - and the brim retains its stability.
I bought mine about 10 years ago, and it's still going strong.

Rated5out of5byKnozfromGreat bicycle sun protectionMy dermatologist recommended using better sun protection while riding my bike. While looking for a sombrero that would fit a 30 inch head/helmet, I stumbled across this item. With a pair of careful scissor cuts to the side mesh to allow for the helmet straps, it fits inside the helmet comfortably without even needing to adjust the strap length. The cuts were along the mesh holes four holes up from the brim extending to the fourth hole from each end. If fraying ever becomes a problem, I will try some type of flexable rubber glue along the edges but so far no problem.
The hat still works well without the helmet.
I've tried it out on three different Giro helmets of various ages and it works great.

Rated4out of5byJack KfromGood protection from sun and rainLoved the hat. The bill came with a crease down the middle that I couldn't get out. Other than that, no complaints at all. Provides plenty of protection against the elements.

Rated4out of5byjan-backpackerfromGreat piece of equipment!OK, I have to re-define what looks "cool" out there, because this hat kept me cool in the hot exposed sun, out backpacking in the Werner Wilderness. It folded up when I didn't need it, and is light, and EFFECTIVE! GREAT HAT! it will go rafting, and hiking, and all those places where I used to just bake my head!

Rated4out of5byELHfromGreat ProtectionMy wife and I used these hats on a trip to the Boundary Waters this summer. They were just what we were looking for. We liked the broad brim. It shielded us from the sun as well as displaced the mosquito netting from our faces. The chin strap was comfortable and very useful in the wind. The crown of the hat does not breath as well as I had hoped. My head got hot in the afternoon. I have used it at home doing yard work.

Rated4out of5bySpecialKayfromNice hat!I bought this hat for sun protection while hiking. With the longer brim in back it certainly works. It has a ventilated crown, but it still feels pretty warm. The back flap can be velcro'd up & that does make it a bit cooler if it's not needed for sun protection. I haven't worn it in the rain yet, but I'll put the hood of my rain jacket over it & the brim can protect my face.
My only quibble is the sweatband inside is only a short section barely covering my forehead. An all around sweatband would have been more absorbent.
I also haven't worn it in heavy winds so I don't know how the brim will behave.
It's lightweight & I like the strap that allows size adjustment. I wear a ponytail & it's big enough I can tuck my ponytail up inside the hat.
