Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
My dermatologist told me to get a hat and wear it at ALL times. What I like about this hat is that it gives good side coverage from the sun - but doesn't interfere with my backpack while I am hiking. Baseball caps just don't cover my face enough, and big straw hats don't work with backpacks. So this is a great solution. The brim got bent up a little but I don't mind. Seems to breathe well too!

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
I bought this for a trip to Cameroon, West Africa, which starts in a week, so if there's any difference, I'll be back! But this looks great - far superior to my usual baseball cap. I have to have serious eye shade. It'll also shade my neck, and ties up when I don't need that. I may replace the velcro with a snap if the hooks catch on other clothing, but otherwise, I'm really happy I bought this. And it's lightweight; it folds flat, though I want to be careful not to crease the bill in packing.

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
Took this on a 2-week safari. Very, very happy with keeping the sun and dust out of my eyes and hair. The side brims were great. Loved the breathability of the hat--didn't have a sweaty head. Stayed on my head in the wind. No one made any comments about the flap or the dork factor (I didn't care anyway). Came home and washed the hat. Didn't look dirty but lots of dust came out. Just a touch of a bar of soap on the sweatband, and voila, no more brown ring! Looking forward to the next time I can wear this hat.

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
Exactly what I was looking for. EXACTLY. I burn terribly and easily, and my neck usually gets it first. I'd gotten by with a gimme cap with a bandana stuffed in it forever, but when I saw this...well, it's just perfect. It's lightweight, it fits nice without binding, and it BREATHES--that's a big deal. And it goes everywhere with me; sure, hiking, yeah, that's what I got it for, but it pretty much goes everywhere I do anymore. It's that comfortable.

Protects from sun, wind, rain. This is my 3rd hat...lost the other 2, and bought replacement same day---can't live without it! Worth every penny, gets compliments...

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
Used mostly in the Northeast during the summer for protection from the sun. Also provides protection from light rain/drizzle. Put the hat to the test during a two week hiking vacation in Utah and Arizona during last two weeks in May. Encountered high winds (50+ mph at Grand Canyon & Arches), blistering heat (90+ F at Zion), and relentless sun through the entire trip. The hat stayed on in the high winds, absorbed any sweat and kept me cool in the heat, and most of all - kept me from getting blistered by the sun. I had to cinch it on well in the high winds, and it was annoying when it caught the wind, but that would be the case with any hat and despite the thrasing from the wind, it stayed on my head. The flap in the back can be raised if you don't need it down, but I pretty much left it down the whole time. The drape didn't make me any hotter, and it kept my neck from getting roasted. I have the sand/black color and the hat still looks clean after encountering blowing red clay. All in all it's a great hat. It does limit visibility a bit when hiking uphill and rock scrambling, but it was easy enough to deal with that. It is much easier to tilt the hat or my head upward than to deal with a wicked sunburn.

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
As a very fair-skinned individual, maximum protection from the sun is my highest priority when I head out from the great indoors. This hat protects my head, face, and neck from direct sun exposure. Sure, I still put on sunblock just in case, but the hat is perfect for preventing skin damage.
I've had the hat for three years and it's held up through trekking, travel, and general day use. I've run it through the wash and haven't seen any fraying or seams coming apart. It's a great hat and I would recommend it to anyone.
To note: a few people have noted it's lack of style and how it blows off in the wind. The latter first, use the chin strap and if you're more concerned about looking hot on the trail and getting sunburned because of it, pass on the hat.

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
It looks pretty goofy and I was a little embarrassed when people saw me, but that's what it takes to block the sun. Hiking in AZ I could see others without such a protruding brim or massive fabric over the neck were clearly exposed to the sun despite their eyes being covered. It was also validating to see a trail guide had the same hat- because they work amazingly.
If you don't mind looking like a goof-ball, or at least you prefer that to a severe sunburn, this could be the right hat for you. I use it because I hate using sunscreen when backpacking. Unfortunately it's just not possible for a hat to cover your face, neck, and ears without looking goofy, even the other REI hats often leave ears unprotected.

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
On hot weather, the once mocked hat becomes the most popular and sought after hat in my family and group. With extremely hot weather, water on the hat will cool you down without ruining the hat. Machine washable and air dry. On hot day, truely wash and wear. Band does get taggered after 2-3 years of use. Will buy again once the hat has fallen apart but after 4 years still going strong.

Comments about Sunday Afternoons Adventure Hat:
I bought two hats in different times...first in sand-color. It was not the most stylish hat but it gave great coverage which was the reason I bought it in the first place. I gave it to my aunt because she loved it. So I bought my second hat in 'white/navy' thinking it should work exactly the same. It blocked the view partially while doesnt give the same sun-protection like my first one...somehow it is very uncomfortable. I dont understand why different color would make different fitting...
