Comments about Novara Presta Tube - 700 x 26 - 32:
I don't understand how a tube can be so bad. I patched a puncture and then the valve ripped where it meets the tube while I was putting air in the tire. I just don't get it... typically I think tubes are tubes, no big deal, but these somehow manage to consistently fail me. It's unfortunate to say the least.

Comments about Novara Presta Tube - 700 x 26 - 32:
I ride 15 miles daily in Seattle area mostly on paved trails. I went through two of these tubes within a matter of 2 days. The first one leaked right out of the box at the stem and the second lasted two days before it deflated while on my way to work. Of course it happened to be raining this day. Will never buy these again.

Comments about Novara Presta Tube - 700 x 26 - 32:
I've used the tubes for over 3 years and they have been reliable until recently. Over the last month two tubes have developed leaks around the valve stem. I have been riding a Novara Buzz for the past 5 years and am a serious recreational rider averaging 200 miles per week. I go through a number of tubes every year and believe I am fairly proficient at changing out the tube and inflating it without placing undue stress on the valve stem. I have been fully satisfied with all other REI cycling products and wonder if there might be a quality issue with these tubes.

Comments about Novara Presta Tube - 700 x 26 - 32:
I go through about 20 tubes a year. I commute every day, year-round through an urban environment with potholes, broken glass, and construction debris.
The bad: the tubes do not have threaded stems. This really isn't much of an issue anymore. Originally, since the stems could not be anchored to the rim, they had a bad tendency to get cuts from the valve hole. I smoothed out the valve opening in the rim and everything was fine. It also appears that the new tubes are reinforced at the valve area.
The good: They hold air. In the hundred or so tubes I've bought from REI, none have ever come out of the box with any holes or leaks. A couple didn't last more then 30 minutes, but that was because a) I failed to remove the piece of wire that caused the first puncture, b) I was in a rush and didn't properly mount the tire back on the rim, or c) there was more than one piece of glass in the tire casing.
The meh: Keep in mind that:
* In a very few cases where the rim maker did not follow ISO specs, the valve will not fit through the opening in the rim.
* These are not super-lightweight racing tubes.
* When using a hand pump, you should always make sure you pump against a stabilizing hand, not the valve stem.

Like others have mentioned, the stems break easily. I inflate daily, so to have this happen after just two weeks of use is nonsense (I had no time to change it so I was stuck driving). I don't know who makes the Novara tubes for REI, but they're not at all on par with most other Novara items I've purchased. I recommend to REI that they find a new manufacturer or offer another brand that doesn't involve useless Slime. Everyone knows that flat prevention is 99% tire design and the rest is everything else including a tube.

Comments about Novara Presta Tube - 700 x 26 - 32:
I am a daily commuter and have put over 6000 miles on these tubes. At first I didn't like the lack of threads but have grown to love the simplicity. I especially like the Novara tubes for two reasons, they tend to be larger in diameter than other brands I have used which makes them easier to install (at least for me) and they seem to be thicker and in my experience, less prone to nuisance flats. I have had my share of duds which usually involve holes near the stem, but I believe part of my problem with this initially was that my rim stem opening was too large and my rim was cutting the tube at the stem[...]rubber grommets that fixed the issue

I have had similar issues with this tube as others. By not having the stem secured with the extra nut, I caused the stem to pop off of the tube while pumping it up (hard to patch that!). On another occasion, I had the valve nut fall off, and the inner part fall into the tube. This is a good cheep tube that I would recommend if you only had [$] for a tube, or you were completely stranded and this was the only tube in the store (which has happened to me, and I thought that this time it would not be as bad.)

Had two of these leak within 15 miles of riding. Replaced first one, thought it might be something in my tire or wheel. Found nothing, put another one on and same thing happened. Replaced with slime tubes and haven't had any problems. Don't buy if you value air in your tire!

I was carrying one of these as my spare tube when I got a flat. After I changed it (11 miles from home), I found that my spare --right out of the box-- had two holes, and I was left stranded.

I've not had a problem with stems pulling out that others have reported. I'm a daily commuter and I pump both tires every morning. I buy these because I love the lack of threads - it is so much easier getting the pump head on and off.
