This was the one (this time :)
SOOOO many options for first aid kits and of course you can make one on your own. But with those 2 things going for me I never will make a decision. So, I tried not to put too much weight into picking the "right" one, but felt that this would suit me for a day hike and also a several day hike/camp out. Had supplies that I felt were staple supplies. It is about as small as my day hike REI first aid kit I got a few years ago, so it doesn't even take up more space than the smaller kit. It's nice and flat, and has the easy zipper opening. GREAT addition to your outdoor treks as well as a disaster kit. Thanks REI for the good deal and good quality!
Basic First-Aid Kit
I was looking for a small kit that had room for additions for day-hikes and short term backpacking trips. This one seems well equipped with room for adding more blister treatments and medications. Quality seems good; particularly the scissors are not kindergarten quality. I added my stuff and it still has a little more room and remains light weight enough for my pack.
Good Buy
Rarely put much stock in prepackaged first aid kits but this one was pretty good. The quality of the bag is very good. Organized well. I added Neosporin spray, nail clippers and some personal meds. I like how this line has 1,2,3 etc. day sized kits to fit your needs.
Organized very well, needs more moleskin
Excellent product. Very compact. I added to mine *Chapstick *Nail clippers *More moleskin *Blister band aids
Good little kit
Overall this is a pretty good little kit. It comes with the basics you would need for a 2-5 day hike in my opinion. I might add a few items of my own but like the pouch/pocket design so more than enough room to add additional items. Like others have said you could create this kit for cheaper on your own but personally I like how the pouch keeps everything organize for when you need it.
From ouch! to AWW
My old first aid pouch was getting worn and I found that I needed something bigger to accommodate items such as Quiklot and a tourniquet. I like to remain organized and the fact that this kit has labels designating where everything is is an excellent feature. I am able to separate my bandages from ointments as opposed to fishing around in the general kit I use to carry. This kit is small and is a great size to keep in a car glovebox, a backpack, or even on your airplane carryon. I added some stuff to my kit such as hand sanitizer, some abd pads, long with nail clippers, and baby powder. I find that this kit and my every day carry tourniquet are enough to conquer most of the injuries which I see in my scouting and outdoorsman career. I find this kit is best suited for family outings, short backpacking trips (three days or less), or vacations where you're living out of s suitcase, and limited on space. This by no means is a solve everything kit and I recommend carrying a trauma kit and satellite phone if you find yourself on longer backpacking trips. Great kit at a great price, cheap enough that you can buy multiple of these and store them in different areas
If you had to choose, this might be the one
The Pros: - Very economical: You're not spending the big bucks to get a great kit - Comprehensive: I swear, there's probably one of everything in here. Maybe two. - Packs down well: I take it on every camping and backpacking trip, sometimes day hikes too. - Instructions are a plus: As of now, I'm not First Aid or Wilderness First Aid certified. So, having the reading material in there can be a small sense of security. - Well organized: It's a well built pack, with many organized compartments. It'll hold up well for a long time. No Cons for this one. Would I recomend, definitely.
Great to have for emergencies
I bought this for a family road trip and used it, while hiking, tubing and horse back riding to clean and bandage cuts and scrapes. Also used the pain reliever for headache. It was easy to carry and had had all the basic supplies that we needed.
Great little first aid kit
Bought this kit about two years ago, hadn't had the chance to use it until our trip to Belize last week. My husband cut his foot badly on a piece of coral and medical attention was a 45-minute boat ride away. This kit gave us the supplies we needed to clean and bandage the wound. It's compact and well-stocked - super when space and weight are at a premium.
This kit failed during an emergency situation
When putting pressure on a wound its difficilt to unzip the pouch especialy with how its shaped. Zipper got stuck while unziping it right at the begining curve. I had to open this kit one handed as my other hand was preoccupied stopping a bleed. The fact the the zipper got stuck at the bend was distressing. It didnt get stuck as in it locked up, it got stuck because when i was pulling the zipper the softness of the pouch pulled as well. This created a block so the zipper couldnt move past it. The pouches actually made it more difficult to get to things as i had to rummage down into the pockets that a pocket in front was stuffed too so the hand space to pull things out was hard. The clips on the tan wrap broke as i tried to secure it in place so i had to use electrical tape. I could see this being useful for very minor problems such as scrapes on knees and minor cuts from a branch maybe its okay. For a more serious problem that actually requires a kit, like a sliced open foot, this kit failed me in more ways in one.
