Comments about Trekmates Flameless Cook Flask Kit:
This technology has been around for quite sometime, so it is nothing new. But I really like this set up, it is compact and very easy to use. I will be using this with Mountain House Freeze dried breakfast and heating water for coffee on the STP and RSVP ( cycling events over 2 days) this year. Cost wise the "fuel" source is cheaper than another brands and it is more versatile. I am not sure how "green" this product is. But I have tried it and I like it. The only thing I would say is read the instructions, use and enjoy.

Don't feel like the only idiot on earth that follows the directions & "doesn't open the pouch"! You need to open the plastic pouch to get to the paper one. I bought both the main dish model & the drink one. They both work great, but a few tips: Be careful of the escaping steam It's hot!!! On the cup model the liquid from the heat pouch water may leak out the edge if you pour it into another container, so make sure the spout is the only thing that hangs over the edge of your container. I am not sure of the contents of the heat water, but don't want to risk contaminating my drink. I single handle a sailboat without auto pilot & needed something like this, so I can keep my eyes & hands on the boat at all times. It does the trick.

Got this as b-day present and just tried it in the backyard before I take it out for real; this thing is great! Heats up water for rehydrated meal packs in about 5min or can be used to direct cook. Total package is small and light weight - comparable to the bulk of a can of fuel and whisperlite (but lighter) and way smaller than a jetboil. No draw backs I can find yet, but would caution that the heat can is sized for 1 meal's worth of water/food. Best uses will be for personal gear/emergency gear; not going to be too convenient if this is being looked at for group gear or fam camp gear. I'm going to buy another one for my home emergency kit. Definitely recommended to friends/fam as a "must buy."
