        Bought this on a whim to take with me to go birdwatching in Oahu, HI. In this trip, I faced strong winds, sudden rains, and ocean breeze, so water and fog proof was necessary. Some hikes took me from dark canopy to open sun with rugged climbs and steep descents, but the tough construction of Alpen handled it all. Only quark with this was the front lens caps that had the tendency to flop around awkwardly, getting caught in the field of view; so I just took them off by unscrewing the tripod mount screw.
