Comments about Nikon Trailblazer ATB Waterproof 10 x 25 Binoculars:

I bought this last minute to enhance my connection with nature for a trip down to Florida. I'm so glad I did. I stood in the REI store and sampled different binoculars -- takes a bit of getting used to, esp'ly with glasses. I almost bought a larger size that you wear around your neck when I saw these. I'm so glad I got the more compact size. They fold down compactly and slip into a pouch I wore at my hip while cycling, hiking and on a tour boat. Such easy access when I wanted them. Besides, even the lightest things become a nagging grind into my neck after a while. Even at this weight my arms would b/c fatigued after a bit.

I can't compare these with other sets, I can just say they worked great for me on this trip for the reasons noted. They really enhanced my experience....before I saw the sandhill cranes in the distance...but this time I saw them up close, just like cranes painted centuries ago on Japanese scrolls. Amazing.

Comments about Nikon Trailblazer ATB Waterproof 10 x 25 Binoculars:

When I use binocs, I don't usually scan a wide area looking for what I might find. Most often I'll spot something specific and want a closer look. With this in mind, I wanted as much magnification as I could get in a compact unit. The 10 x 25 does this. Because the magnification is so powerful and the binocs are so small, there is some shake but having the object up close is a trade off I'm willing to make.

Comments about Nikon Trailblazer ATB Waterproof 10 x 25 Binoculars:

I used my binoculars for viewing wildlife observed while hiking and backpacking and while attending concerts and sporting events. Unfortunately, over time the hinges became loose causing the optics to misalign. REI's 100% satisfaction guarantee should read 50% satisfaction guarantee, but only if they approve of course. I will try Nikon to see if they back their warrantee.

Comments about Nikon Trailblazer ATB Waterproof 10 x 25 Binoculars:

Of the four pairs of binoculars I've purchased at REI over the years, this is the best for my useage. The other pairs found new homes.

I find these to be rugged enough for walking about in the brush and tangle of wilderness, with quick focus ability.

The weight is just right for the casual user, and the small carrying case goes unnoticed at my hip, or attached to my pack.

The lensing is of a decent quality, and able to provide a good level of definition, which allows enjoyment of the species or subject of my interest.

I consider these binoculars to be of mid quality, whose best useage is casual or recreational.

For the serious user, there is of course, better quality, but at a considerably higher price.

These are good all around binoculars which you can't go wrong with.

Everyone has their preferences of course, but having experienced four sets now ranging from 100 through to and including 600.00. These are the best I've owned.

You can't go wrong with these, and anyway, REI stands behind their products 100%. What have you got to lose!! Nothing really....

Comments about Nikon Trailblazer ATB Waterproof 10 x 25 Binoculars:

Bought this before a trip to Yellowstone, and when I got there, really wished I had ponied up for a larger set of binoculars. These are definitely compact, but because of the small size, it's tough to hold still. Very difficult to keep your sights set on wildlife.

Comments about Nikon Trailblazer ATB Waterproof 10 x 25 Binoculars:

Just wanted to follow up from previous review. Went back to store and exchanged original pair. The eye cup was faulty. The lens cap is tight, would suggest leaving them off and being very careful removing the first time as to not pull the rubber eye cup off also. Second pair focus was somewhat better, not really an issure once used a little. You must be still while looking through these bonoculars due to the narrow field, any movement will cause unviewable shake, ie: no riding anything and using these. They are a great little and light weight bonocular for hiking. REI has a great write up on bonoculars power and field of view, read it before buying a pair so that you understand how each bonocular has it's own strengths.

Comments about Nikon Trailblazer ATB Waterproof 10 x 25 Binoculars:

Bonoculars have good light transmision even with the narraw field of view. Power 10X is great for far away, can read text on signs at a great distance, brings most wildlife up close with sharp focus, however the focus wheel on my set has some sloppiness to it when I try to reverse it from focusing to far. The eye cup on one side will slide off when trying to remove the lens protector, that is aggravating, the other side is pretty secure so don't know what is going on there. I think Nikon should have made it a solid rubber piece. Comes with a nice little case and strap. I will probably go back to the store and review the same model to see if I have a pair that has problems. If not then will keep what I got cause I like everything else about them.
