The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.
Rated5out of5byWest CoasterfromGreat supportI wanted a hiking shoe with a stiff sole for more support and to make scrambling over rocks less tiresome for my feet. I also wanted a warm waterproof shoe, since I do most of my hiking when it's 70 degrees or cooler. I was hoping for a shoe but this mid boot seems to be perfect. And I think the added protection from the ankle support is a good idea and might prevent a sprain. I've used them on shorter hikes and even city walks. Next week I'll take them to more challenging trails, and I'm sure my feet will be happy.

Rated5out of5bySpeedymousefromI <3 Vasques!I've worn vasque hiking boots since I was 12 - the brand fits low-volume/narrow feet very well, and the Talus is no exception. I bought them to replace a pair of Vasque Vistas that I destroyed caving. They fit true to size, cradle my heel while allowing my toes room to move, and provide a nice cushiony ride over varied terrain. The only improvement I would make would be a larger rubber rand on the toe - the nubuck is getting scuffed.

Rated5out of5bymzgonc16fromHiking BootsI kept saying it felt like I was walking on clouds because the cushion in the shoe was so great. I walked around a waterfall with all different types of terrain and water and my feet were dry and warm the whole time!

Rated5out of5bySawneefromClassic look, modern fit and performanceI'm a light to medium hiker and this boots are very comfortable. I had an excellent sales person at REI help me get a perfect fit. I didn't even have to break them in. Completely waterproof even on a recent hike at a rain forest. I was skeptic at first because they did look as modern as others I tried but the fit was absolutely superior compared to others I tried that day.

Rated4out of5byPaleoistafromserious hiking bootsI'd completely worn out a previous pair of Vasque hiking shoes, specifically the original Mantra style, and was very distressed to find that the "new and improved" Mantra 2.0 hiking shoes do not work for me (the tongue hits my ankles in such a way that I can't walk in them) and I was at my wit's end for several weeks, feeling I'd never find a decent pair of hiking shoes. (I tried on many different pairs, made by several different athletic / outdoor activity shoe manufacturers, believe me.)
I bought a pair of Vasque Talus hiking boots in the same size that my old, worn-out Mantras had been (i.e. 9.5), but I found that my new Talus hiking boots were impossible for me to walk in, so I regretfully returned them. A few weeks later, in desperation, I tried the Talus boots again, but in different sizes, and it seemed that maybe, just maybe, I could wear the size 9 Talus boots. I bought them, and to my great relief, I have found that I can wear them comfortably. They feel snug but in a cozy way, not uncomfortably so.
I still wish that Vasque still made the Mantra hiking shoes in their original incarnation, but since they don't, these Talus boots are a good substitute for them. One thing I especially appreciate about the Vasque Talus hiking boots is that they offer good ankle support without being quite as high as Vasque's other hiking boots. For me, this makes a huge difference in comfort and walkability. These boots allow me to move my ankles a fair amount with every step. This is what ankles are supposed to do!
I've worn these new hiking boots on several hikes of varying lengths, (three to seven hours) and they're becoming more and more comfortable as I break them in. I look forward to enjoying countless long hikes in them.
I always wear liner socks (wool, silk, cotton, or synthetic material, all are fine as long as they're not too tight) under REI wool light-hiking socks when I wear hiking shoes or boots. My feet feel well-protected, well-cared for, and snug. Wearing liner socks under the wool socks makes a big difference in comfort.

Rated4out of5byJess LalafromGreat boots!I went to Utah for a week to check out all the National Parks and these boots were perfect for all terrain. We also had different kinds of weather during our trip and these held up perfectly in every condition. They are very sturdy! I gave them 4 stars because I don't have much to compare them.
