I've had a tough time finding shoes to comfortably fit my feet - impossible with running shoes. These changed my world. These shoes actually make me want to run (do not, however, try for your normal run when you first put them on or your calves will probably explode).

I marked them as "good arch support" because they create natural arch support. My flat feet have developed better arches, my ankles and calves are a lot stronger, too.

These are great for building the muscles needed for good balance, strength and flexibility. When I worked at a yoga studio I encouraged people to get these - they will do wonders for your practice!

They wash wonderfully well. I've worn them hiking, thought I'd ruined them, and they came out spiffy clean from the washer.

Downside: they are not that durable. I've had mine for about 4 months - and granted, put some serious miles on them - but I just tore the bottom of one toe (in the shoe, not my foot) open. Yea for REI's return policy!

A couple of notes on usage:
Loosen the laces a lot, put the shoe on the floor, slide your toes in and line them up with the "fingers" of the shoes. Only once you've got your toes in their proper places do you want to put the heel on.

You will need to wash these frequently if you are not wearing socks.

When choosing a size, you want the tip of your longest toe to touch the end of the shoe without feeling squished.

I love my five finger speeds! I'm a women's size 39. I wear them all day and everywhere. At work, on tile, on concrete, on cement, on trails, on grass, standing still, walking and running. It took me 3 weeks to get used to them, but it was worth it. Now I don't have any lower back pain when I run. When I go back to my cushioned trainers, the back pain comes back, just like it used to. At first it was difficult and frustrating to get into the Fivefinger Speeds each time, but as my toes strengthened it became easier. The same for my arches, calves, and hamstring muscles. As those areas strengthen, the shoes started feeling more comfortable than any other shoes I owned. My advice: Don't give up on them quickly. Also don't wear them all of the time starting out. Gradually build those muscles by wearing them every other day alternating them with a reliable arch supporting pair of shoes/sandals. I took a 4 day break when I got blisters on the pads of my big toes and then I put the fivefingers back on and they felt great. I'm still having trouble with running down hill, but I'm determined to figure out a comfortable way. My friends, colleagues and neighbors all want them now, [...]We're all waiting for Vibram to produce more Speeds. :-)

I didn't get them through REI. I wanted to, but they were sold out. They were sold out on Vibram's website as well. I ended up picking them up at a little shoe store in Maine.

I bought my speeds to be my basic everyday shoe due to my toes curling under each other. These shoes are great for keeping the toes separated like they're meant to be. I also have noticed that learning how to walk "barefoot" again has strengthened the muscles in my legs. They are hard to get on at first as most people aren't used to spacing out their toes. But it feels great, I feel like I'm walking barefoot all the time.

I have a pair of vibram classics, but like these better as they cover the whole foot and don't bother the back of the heels like the classics do.

These would be the only shoes I own but sadly not allowed to wear them at work :( they look great with jeans as well.

Service and delivery comments:

Delivery was great, I ordered these while they were on back order so was prepared to wait a month or longer to get them but they were back in stock and shipped in less than two weeks from order.

Customer service at the rei I shop at is always great, they don't keep the women's speeds in the store so they helped size me with a style that is similar and then ordered them for me.
