Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Clearwater +20 Sleeping Bag - Wide - Special Buy:

I have had this bag (and others now)and used it about 5 times in ever increasing temperatures. First time was in snow backpacking during a section hike of the continental divide trail in NM near Cuba. Probably 25 to 30 degrees. I wasn't sure I was going to survive the night. I had base layer and by morning I had almost all my other clothes on. Although not fat, I am not a skinny person and I have done this kind of backpacking before. I was shocked how cold I was. My tent tent partner seemed for the most part quite comfortable. Tried it again backpacking in AZ when it was about 35 degrees outside. Froze again. Used it again recently in AZ where it was about 45 to 50 degrees. I should have been roasting, but I was actually just about perfect with a light base layer. Don't buy this thinking it is a 20 degree bag.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Clearwater +20 Sleeping Bag - Wide - Special Buy:

Tested the bags on Mount Charleston in nevada with my wife. Temperatures got down to low 20s F as cataloged on my Celstron TrekGuide. The ground had snow and ice pretty thick. Used an REi 1.5 lbs pad in a tent, and works fine with other bags in the snow. Wore very warm clothes to bed. The bag was really cold for me and my wife. The bag obviously does not work as rated. It barely worked at 30F. I would say it was good at 35F. It does have alot of room and comfortable even on the regular models. I would recomend this bag at 35f.

This bag is just what I needed, I am 250 lbs and I wanted a bag to go around my chest comfortably. I slept out at 32-34 degrees and I was quite comfortable. Make sure you use a pad.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Clearwater +20 Sleeping Bag - Wide - Special Buy:

I am 5' 8" and 175 and I must say- I bought this bag because of the price. I have used it multiple hiking/camping/climbing trips in temperatures ranging from 30-55 degrees and every single time I froze and stayed awake the entire night. Part of this may be that the bag seems a little too big for me, but even after adding towels and multiple layers of clothing, I still froze, leading me to think that this bag should be rated to 65 degrees instead of twenty. I will be returning this bag. The price is great, but for a bag that I can only use while staying at someone's house or at the height of summer, it's not really worth it. Also, the plastic part of the cinch closure broke on the stuff sack the first time I used it while testing out the bag in my dorm room and the plastic part of the cinch closure on the bag itself, near the hood, broke two nights ago (about the fifth time I've used it). I love REI, but I do not love this bag.
