Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Clearwater +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - Special Buy:
I was just getting back into backpacking/camping and wanted a reasonably priced sleeping bag to get started. I have been happy with this back on the 3 trips I have made. I am 6'4" and about 200lbs so I got the long version. I find I have plenty of room. I also got the youth versions for my 9 and 13 year old.
My coldest trip was at about 10,000 feet and temps got down to the 40s, I was plenty warm and so were my kids. Out of the three bags, one of the cinching mechanisms around the neck did break but it isn't that big of a deal to replace it. The zipper can snag from time to time but if you are careful it can be avoided and we haven't had too many troubles, my son used his yout version for a week camp and he didn't have any troubles with it snagging.
It packs down enough for me to get it into the sleeping bag compartment on my Baltoro backpack; although it takes a few minutes compressing it down. it is a synthetic bag so it is never going to get as small as a down bag. I even got the youth versions to fit in at the bottom of a kids Comet backpack; although, they couldn't do it themselves.
Overall I am happy with the performance compared considering the price. I picked it up when there was an extra 30% off of my purchase so the youth bags were about $35 and the adult long was about $55.

Comments about ALPS Mountaineering Clearwater +20 Sleeping Bag - Long - Special Buy:
The bag is a high quality piece of equipment that comes with an excellent stuff sack and has plenty of room for guys up to 6'6' and 260 plus pounds. I'm 6'4 215 and was quite comfortable inside. One of the perks is there is plenty of room in length but especially in width where there is about 2" extra on each side of my body. The problem is all that extra room is more volume you have to heat up to stay warm and more material which adds weight and bulk, two things you'd rather not have backpacking. Consequently I would freeze in 20+ temps due to the extremely loose fitting bag.
If you are a really big guy looking for a high quality sleeping bag for a great price, this is the bag for you.
