The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Kelty Yukon 48 External Frame Pack:
I bought this pack for my 12 year old son since I had an external frame pack growing up and always preferred them. The biggest problem is that even the small version is way oversized for a thin child. I failed to read the specs that indicate the hip belt is sized for 30 inches at the smallest. Although the torso length might fit a larger 12 year old, unless your child is very big in the waist and hips, this pack will not fit well. Lesson learned, look at all the specs.
We've now decided to go with an internal frame pack from REI. The sizes and ages listed for their packs are a more accurate description.

Comments about Kelty Yukon 48 External Frame Pack:
I have had one of these Backpacks since I was fifteen years old. I received it as a gift from my dad when I wore out his old Texasport pack as a young Boyscout. I have used this Backpack on hundreds of excursions from overnight to multi-day trips. This Backpack has seen many trail miles in places that are notorious for destroying equipment. This pack has gotten me through tough hikes in California's deserts (Death Valley several times) and Arizona's deserts (I currently live in Northern Arizona). I have yet to have a zipper malfunction, a seam tear, or any noticeable fabric deterioration. The simple layout of the main pockets doesn't make for much in the way of accessibility, but it holds plenty of gear. The top flap and fabric make for pretty good water resistance. It kept all of my gear dry for an entire round trip through Supai, to the Colorado river and back, despite multiple unintended dunks in the drink. As I am beginning to take longer, and harder excursions, I have exceeded the smallish capacity of this pack much of the time, but I still use it as my primary on short trips, or overnighters. Great for teens.
