Comments about Garmont Zenith Trail GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
Great light-weight mountain hiker. Rounded edges, so you may want to let your friends with boots on get ahead of you in the winter on the side-hills. Feel great running on all kinds of trails. Won't have to worry about crunching toes on steep descents- the shoes hold the foot back from the toebox.

Got these about two weeks ago. I have done light hiking as well as around town walking in the rain. Amazing. I did not experience the shrinking mentioned in the other review. The footbed is incredibly comfortable. The sole is stiff yet low enough to the ground to feel a little bit of where you're going. This is definitely not a shoe for heavy backpacking, but for 1-3 day hikes these are perfect. Go Garmont!

Comments about Garmont Zenith Trail GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I have a wide forefoot and a narrow heel/ankle. Usually I have to buy my shoes 1/2 size bigger to accommodate the forefoot, and as a consequence, the heel pocket becomes too big and unsupportive. Not so with these hikers. The heel pocket is supportive, the soles are stiff enough for hiking on rocky trails, and there is very little break in time. You may want to replace the insoles with something more supportive (which I have done). I don't count this as a specific negative for this shoe as almost all shoes come with inadequate insoles. Overall a really nice light duty trail hiker.

I have worn these on day hikes and fishing trips and the shoes have performed very well. It's like having on shoes on. They are exactly what I was looking for in a hiking shoe.

Comments about Garmont Zenith Trail GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
JUNK! I bought a pair of Zenith Trail GTX in April 2011 in anticipation of a hike in July 2011. I purchased these because they felt great in the store and provided awesome support for a low cut hiker. After break in and general wearing, I went on a relatively short hike of the Colorado Trail (32 Miles). I have to say that these have been the worst shoes I have ever had the displeasure of owning. After only 32 easy trail miles, my right shoe started to develop a hole in the top over the toes, then I noticed that the side of the toe area was pulling away from the stitching. Both of the shoes started to develop this problem. My right shoe now has two big holes and the left has one, because the covering material just kept unraveling. I could not believe that for the $$$ that I paid for these, they did not even last me 6 months and only 32 easy trail miles!! I had high hopes for Garmont after the reviews I read, but let me tell you that these are just complete junk. I really miss my Merrells.

Comments about Garmont Zenith Trail GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I wish I had known about the ADD (anatomically directed design) features as I was searching - I would have selected these shoes quicker. I was looking for fit first, wanting adequate room for toes while securing the rest of the foot. I was also hoping for design that would help with a gait issue that's related to an arthritic hip. ADD, as explained in the brochure (with my minimal editing) that came with the shoes (I can't find this online elsewhere):
"First Metatarsal Accommodation - More room for big toe... normal relaxed position...Freedom for this toe allows the foot to enact a mechanism which provides stability, cushioning and efficient propulsion...
Asymmetrical Closure System - Forefoot lacing that crosses the foot at an angle similar to toe joints. Encourages the footwear to flex like your foot.
Lateral Tongue Post - Lateral half of the tongue is thickened. Provides a more intimate, anatomical fit...better control and stability. Less tongue drift.
Differential Maleolar Pads - Heel pads that are asymmetrical medial to lateral, just as ankle bones are. Compliments heel security...more anatomical and accurate fit around ankle bones.
Asymmetrical Cuff Height - ...Cuff is lower on lateral side for comfort during heel strike. Taller on medial side for support when climbing and scrambling, and to aid in resisting lateral sprains.
ADD encourages the foot to utilise its own ability to stabilize, cushion and propel with efficiency...ADD features, through fit and function, encourage the foot and leg to perform their best."
Some of these features are more important to my selection, particularly the FMA. And others seem fairly trivial, like LTP.
I have only just got these shoes. They fit good and I'm confident they will perform well. I'll see.

Comments about Garmont Zenith Trail GTX Hiking Shoes - Men's:
Haven't had a chance to put miles on these, so I prolly should update my review then.
But my first impressions are good, like the way it fits, sizing is on the tight side. So I ordered a 12 and wear light socks (it's gonna be summer folks!!).
Love the toe box, room to breath without feeling like I am wearing clown shoes.
