Comments about Osprey Talon 8 Waistpack:
Very happy with the product. It has additional straps to seriously tighten up if necessary. It has plenty of room in main compartment for whatever you may want/need: food, more water, light clothing (such as upper/lower shell, gloves, beenie, ect.). Also has another smaller pocket for thinner items such as maps, small first aid kit, wallet, ect. There is a small pocket on each hip that works great for a mutitool, compass, keys, small gps, ect. Aslo it has bungee cords criss crossing the outside back to secure other item such as a light jacket, hat, water shoes, ect. Only cons i can think off is that i wish there was just a little bit more padding in the hip area and a more heavy duty buckle or clip in front. i would definately recommend to a friend.

Comments about Osprey Talon 8 Waistpack:
I do a lot of long distance day hiking up to about 30 miles. I've tried several different packs, and now I only use this as a day pack unless it is very cold.
This is the only way to stick with a light pack and still have all the weight on your hips. The light back packs all hang from your sholders (too small for hip suspension). The other hip packs I've found tilt back.
The suspention on this specifically allows you to adjust the tilt with little straps that run from the top-side of the hip to the water bottle holder in the back. If it is tipped back to far, you just tighten this strap.
There is plenty of space for a filter, lots of food, and an extra light jacket. The side water pockets will fit the large water bottles, and the side belt pockets are perfect for small camera, or phone.
Hit the trail and enjoy!!!

Comments about Osprey Talon 8 Waistpack:
This pack has zippered side pockets that offer easy access for ID, keys, a camera, mobile phone, etc. The main storage areas are good for larger items such as a lightweight shell-type jacket, sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks, etc. What I do not understand is why such a convoluted & flimsy fastening system was selected for a rather large item. It is listed as unisex, but a small woman like me is not able to adjust it for a really comfortable & secure fit. The narrow webbing digs into my abdomen and makes it hurt when I am on a day hike. Then, there is all the excess webbing just hanging there when it is adjusted to its smallest possible fit. Osprey suggested I might want to cut the extra webbing off and sew it into position, but then it would not be adjustable when wearing heavier layers of clothing. The rep told me it wasn't possible to load the pack with enough weight for the narrow webbing/buckle system to be a problem...WRONG! I do have to give the two water bottles a "thumbs up". They do not impart an objectionable plastic taste to the water like some bottles I have used. I am trying to figure out some sort of alternate fastening system or padding that can be used to make the pack more comfortable without spending a lot of money. I would recommend trying this pack for fit before purchasing it. It is a really good pack if it fits well.

Comments about Osprey Talon 8 Waistpack:
Used this pack for the 2011 S2SF supported tour to San Francisco. I needed a pack that could hold an extra shell, bike U-lock, lunch, wallet, and various other things that were needed for the day but wouldn't fit in my jersey pocket. With all that cargo I was expecting the pack to slip down my back or be uncomfortable, but it didn't and it wasn't. It obediently stayed in position comfortably.
Instead of using the bottle holders for their intended job, I was able to use them to carry a Topeak Road Morph pump and the large LiOn battery for my headlamp, or bundle the battery and pump one one side and carry one extra bottle on the other if it was a hot day. The side pockets were VERY handy and could be small if you wanted them to be, or really expand out to take things you didn't want to lose or let out of your sight but wanted handy (aka, cyclo-computer head, lock key, camera, credit cards, cleat covers).
The pack showed a resistance to abrasion when I went down on day one.
My only con to note is that the front strap seemed very narrow given the width of the hip pads (which work great btw), and created large loops during adjustment that could be caught up on things if you happen to be a thin person. The adjustment process also took a bit of getting used to.
All in all it saw about 1000 miles of service with my wearing it about 10 hours every day for 13 days, and chances are it'll see much more.

Comments about Osprey Talon 8 Waistpack:
The only WEARABLE pack of this size that can swallow gear in its divided compartments AND hold Nalgene wide mouth bottles (even the tall ones) with retaining cords on each.
I've had no problems with bottles hitting my elbows but it does tend to swing towards one side on me (with one bottle loaded) but there are toggles for a quick grab/adjust on the front.
The small pockets on the front hold up to a smartphone too and you can lash/cinch stuff to the back. Ridiculous features with a lifetime guarantee. Very happy and fits doggy treats too.

Comments about Osprey Talon 8 Waistpack:
Recently hiked up to Nevada Fall, Yosemite with this pack. Started at trailhead @ 10:30am on a 7 mile roundtrip hike, with gain in elevation of 1900ft. Temperature was about 89 degrees. I was able to carry two 32oz Nalgene bottles, energy bars, GU, first aid kit, lip balm, DEET wipes, headlamp (for emergency), batteries, etc. You get the point, you can hold a lot in this pack. As the previous writer suggested, the waist belt clasp is considerably thinner than I had expected, but it did its job. If I felt the pack sliding, it was just a minor pull on the side straps to tighten. The crucial point for me, was that the weight was off my neck, shoulders, and upper back.

Comments about Osprey Talon 8 Waistpack:
I purchased this pack online as an alternative to carrying a backpack on day hikes. I was excited at first because the pack itself is large enough to hold a jacket and first aide kit, which is what I was looking for. My point and shoot camera fit in the side pocket and was easy to grab while hiking. It has an extremely nice back venting system, but for me that didn't matter because I could not get the pack to sit flush on my back. Only about an inch of the bottom of the pack touched with my back. The waist strap is much thinner than other packs out there and I found myself wanting something more substantial. One of the adjustment straps broke before I headed out on my first hike. I just went into the store and tried the Northface and Mountian Smith packs and both fit me better.
