Comments about Vasque Scree UD Low Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I received a pair of Vasque hiking boots for Christmas. I started using them seriously in March after the winter was over. I enjoyed the boots but the front rubber piece started coming off the shoe in late April/early May. I called the store and they said they could send it out but it could take from 6-8 weeks to get it repaired. This upset me because I had a week hiking planned for mid-June in Yosemite. We did the hiking and had a great time. The shoes are great. After the Yosemite trip I contacted you and you told me to mail them back to you or take them to the store and they would mail them to you. Again, the turn around time was 6-8 weeks. That is crazy. I hike at least three times per month. I took my old shoes on a 9-mile hike today but it was uncomfortable because they are worn out. That is why I purchased your shoes. I now must purchase another pair of hiking shoes. All of my previous shoes have lasted 3-5 years. At least I know not to purchase shoes from Vasque. I am very disappointed in your service. How can serious hikers put up with a 6-8 week turn around time? I would have expected you to replace the shoes.
I have been hiking in the Rockies (Glacier, Rocky Mt. Nat. Park, and the Tetons), the Appalachian Trail, and local hikes for over 20 years and all of my shoes lasted at least 3 years and some 4-5 years. This is what I expected from Vasque hiking shoes.

This shoe is amazing. Great fit for me with no extra sole support required. I have put 150+ hiking miles on these shoes so far. Never a water proof issue including mild rains and shallow river crossings. The shoe feels very secure on my foot, and the traction is really great. Going to get the mids as well for 2 backpacking trips this summer. I bought some Garmots and I blew out the mesh. This shoe has more leather which seem to make them more durable. The big gnarly toe tread is coo too.

I tested them at store and I liked them very much. They seemed very comfortable and very well made. Unfortunately, they didn't work out for me since the ankle cut was a bit too high for me (my ankle bones are low) and one of the shoes was rubbing it. Another concern for me was that arch support seemed pretty low and they'd require a sole insert. For anyone that has high ankle bone and high arch, these would be great shoes.

I really like the construction of this shoe, but when I put them no it felt like my toe region was all jammed up. I considered "breaking them in" but it felt tight enough that I probably would have ended up in pain after a long hike.

Just got back from a 2 day 30 mile hike with a 40lb backpack and these shoes were great. My last pair of boots gave me blisters at 10 miles and they were well worn. These boots are comfortable, not lot of arch support but enough for me. They have good grip, stayed dry in the rain and were overall a great shoe. My feet were sore when I got home, however that is most likely due to the fact that it was the 1st hike of the season. I hope to get a lot of wear out of these boots.

Knew I was going to Joshua Tree and needed new shoes so I conducted an extensive on-line search. When I went to the local REI, they didn't have what I was looking for, and when I went to the store in Carlsbad, CA they had these and a pair of Keens. I decided to purchase the Scree because they had the better fit, even though I had to purchase a whole size larger to achieve the proper fit.
After inserting Superfeet insoles I was off and running/hiking. Spent the next two weeks wearing these to the office in the morning then plowing through Joshua Tree in the afternoon and evenings, racking up about 60-70 miles (no pack though). They performed excellentin the various desert terrain and on the rainy days they kept my feet dry. Transitioning back to the East coast, they have done an excellent job on the trails in Shenandoah.
They work great for what they are designed to do, but my hope to have a shoe I can wear to work then to hike in is ridiculous. As another reviewer commented, the Stealth rubber which allows for great traction on loose terrain is sticky and softer than other soles. It marks the heck out of linoleum or tile surfaces, and sticks (like it was designed) to hardwood or other no carpeted flooring. I imagine that this softness may cause the soles to wear out earlier than other shoes, but in the mean time they are excellent for hiking.
I would recommend these to a friend, but remind him/her that this is not a shoe for daily wear.

I love the sticky rubber soles. I can lace these guys up pretty tight and use them as approach shoes, so they're great for scrambling. Also, the sticky rubber with the waterproofing makes them IDEAL for river research. I spend a lot of time hopping around mountain streams, and being able to wade a little bit and stay dry while sticking very well to the rock is a huge advantage. Some of the rubber parts are starting to peel a bit, but it's nothing I can't repair on my own, so I'm not too worried about it. Leather and mesh parts are good and solid, won't tear easily like many other boots. I've put them through their paces and the soles seem to be holding up nicely, which was my only concern, as sticky rubber tends to sometimes wear quickly.

Sizing never felt right. The worst part was all the glued on pieces started to peel off after just a few months. Expect any linoleum floor to get marked up significantly, and you will feel like you are sticking to any polished floor.

Comments about Vasque Scree UD Low Hiking Shoes - Men's:
I use them for hiking in the woods and mountains on a variety of trail types all year round, and they are awesome. They seem clunky at first when I put them on, but then I start walking/hiking and they are solid, comfortable and have great traction. And my feet have not gotten wet yet, but being low tops, they would probably not be good in deep snow or heavy rain with deep puddles. Fine in regular rain. In regard to the sizing, I am wearing a size larger (10) than my regular shoes (9). But the numbers don't alter the fact that they are great shoes that fit my foot well.
