Not for use IMHO in hot/humid areas which is ironic- I needed bug protection and this fabric doesn't breathe enough. Granted I was doing a 2 mile 15% grade hike but I found the fabric too heavy and as a result felt like I was in a sauna.

Was part of a party of 12 on Mt. Rainier for a week. The mosquitos were pretty bad. The only people not getting bitten regularly were those covered in deet or wearing exofficio bugsaway clothes. (Mosquitos would bite bugsaway wearers elsewhere on the body but not through the shirt or pants like those who had not sprayed deet on their clothes.) One person reported she wore the pants without washing first and got a rash. After washing once she no longer got a rash and was not bitten through the pants. She noticed a decline in effectiveness after 25 washes.

I wouldn't spend this much to wear a shirt for outdoor activities like hiking. When I go hiking, I plan on getting dirty, smelly, as it's hard work, and part of the gig. I use my old airstrip shirts for hiking, as they are clearly better suited for it. And they do great. I noticed some people don't like this shirt when they hike, etc, but I think it's great for travel and casual wear. The quality is high, and it looks great. Of course, it is way over priced like most everything exofficio makes.....but thanks to Sierra Trading Post, I can buy their [$] shirts for $20.00-$40.00, and have quite a collection as a result.

The first time I tried this in my back deck area, which is a haven for biting insects and mosquitos, it seemed to work great. And on subsequent times, it was marginally better than no protection. But I was looking for something stronger than 'marginally better.'
I never washed it, it just seemed that the protection faded out quickly. For the price, I definitely wanted more.

After one 8-hour hike this shirt was still damp and smelled like an unwashed body after 72 hours, when other shirts (Columbia - costing half the ExOfficio) and Buffs were dry within just a few hours and smelled like the mountain air in which we were camping.
