Comments about Light & Motion Stella 300 Bike Light:
Go to "light and motion" website to search for general information regarding battery life, etc.
I bought this light for night road-training. The light power is sufficient for road cycling and moderate off-road activities. No downhill because not enough power. No curvy single trails, because angle not wide enough. I was disappointed for a number of reasons:
1) The cable is too long. L&M sells it as a multisport light and it features a VERY long cable which you have to somehow deal with. I fixed with a cable binder on the frame. Very annoying if used as a bike light. Maybe good if you like to use it as a headlamp.
2) on/off switch sits on top of lamp. By switching it on or changing the setting from 'hi' to 'low' you have to push on the lamp-body which at the same time changes the angle at which the light is fixed on the bar. This is a major drawback as re-setting to the proper angle (up-down) distracts from the ride. Potentially dangerous. I found myself changing the light-setting very often from 'hi' to 'low', simply to safe battery. "Low" is sufficient for climbs and when it goes downhill, you need a little more light. (Note: a nice feature is the "Race Mode" which allows the user to switch directly between "low" and "high" without going through "medium" or "blink" mode.)
3) Battery is fixed with a single strap. It starts loosening itself after a while and migrates along the top-tube and rattles. It won't fall off the bike, but it won't rest snug under the top tube either.
4) O-ring for mounting the light on the handlebar is integrated in the body of the light. This part is bound to break after a while and should be designed with easy replacement in mind. Since it is connected to the rest of the light, you will have to order a special part in case it breaks. Super! (NiteRider uses standard O-rings for that purpose).
5) The reflector had a blind spot. This was only minor and did not lead to any change of light-distribution. I looked at several L&M Stella 300 models and they all had the same blind spot. Is probably due to the production process. Also, there was some dust in the reflector. But that's a minor thing, not affecting the performance.
I exchanged the Stella 300 against the NightRider MiNewt.700 Dual. It is $30 more expensive, but you also get a second light. One single MiNewt light is comparable to the Stella 300. However, the NiteRider MiNewt.700 Dualdoes not have any of the above disadvantages: The cable is not too long, the on/off switch sits on the battery and is easy to use/reach. Battery is fixed with two straps and a bit longer, making it much easier to properly fix it under the top tube. The lamps are fixed with standard O-rings which are easy to replace when they wear out and loose elasticity. Also, the Dual lamp system lets you use a single lamp if you wish. The battery life - if used with a single lamp (which compares to the L&M Stella 300) - is equivalent to battery life of the Stella 300.
My advice: Don't get the Stella. Rather opt for the NightRider MiNewt.

Comments about Light & Motion Stella 300 Bike Light:
I have this thing and it has been an absolute workhorse. It's a compact, medium brightness light with a big battery pack. Commuting about 45 minutes at night with the light on high, I have to charge it about once a week. Riding 600k brevets, I'm on the road for essentially two days, starting before dawn, riding late into the night, sleeping for a while, and then riding late into the night again (assuming hills and wretched headwinds, which happens). This light makes it the whole way through on a charge, even after two years of daily use. Often I'll realize that I can't remember the last time I charged the thing, but just the same, it never seems to run out of juice on me.
This was an upgrade for me from the NiMH Stella 150, which has a much smaller pack, physically. I wanted something brighter and with a much longer run time. I had the 150 mounted on my helmet. A friend was sporting a light with a longer cord like this on helmet with the pack in his jersey pocket and I decided that was a great way to go for city riding, so I wanted the longer cord. Mine came with a helmet mount too and I assume they still do. It would also let me throw the battery pack in a pannier and stick the light on the handle bars.
It seems to be popular to make brighter lights with packs with fewer mAh. That's not a bad setup if you don't mind charging it frequently.
Another review found it unsuitable for downhill night riding and instead suggested a 700 lumen light. Yes, a 700 lumen light is going to be brighter than a 300 lumen light but that certainly doesn't make this a bad light. It's fantastic that LED lights keep getting brighter and brighter and Light and Motion makes some brighter models as well. This 300 lights up a patch of pavement or trail. It's fantastic for getting motorist's attention at intersections. I would go for something brighter for downhill riding, though. The 150 lumen was a huge upgrade from the inexpensive AA gobblers, and this 300 is a huge step up from that.

Comments about Light & Motion Stella 300 Bike Light:
I use a Stella 300 for commuting about 30 miles/day. It is a reliable, reasonably bright light with good run times on the battery. I find the brightness fine for commuting but others might prefer something brighter. My main complaints are that the battery cord is entirely too long and I ended up having to wrap it around the battery and put it all in a camera case to contain it. Rather ridiculous. My other complaint is that the switch takes too much pressure to operate and is hard to adjust when it's cold and you're wearing gloves.

Comments about Light & Motion Stella 300 Bike Light:
I leave home at 5 am to commute to work. I use the flashing setting when I am on roads with heavy traffic. It reflects off signs 200 or 300 yards down the road. When on dark roads and bike trails I use the high beam. My route is clearly lit giving good visibility for any obstacles.
