Comments about Light & Motion Vega 200 LED Bike Light - '09 Closeout:
I have had this light for 1 year now, it is very bright and the blink mode is great. I use it for commuting and take it with me on mountain bike rides when I am racing the sunset.
The only problem is the mount is not very good. You must really pull hard to get the strap to keep the light from moving after every bump. I contacted Light and Motion support, and they said just pull it tighter.
The strap has broken once in the first year.
I would not but it again, but with a new mount I would.

Comments about Light & Motion Vega 200 LED Bike Light - '09 Closeout:
The big deal about this light to me is that it's easily movable between bikes. I have three bikes that I need a powerful light on. All other lights I looked at in this class use screw-on mounts, and they only ship with one. That's an extra $15 per bike to buy extra mounts, on top of the fact that the other lights cost more in the first place. It also pops on and off easily, so it's easy to take with you when you leave your bike locked up somewhere. To everyone complaining about the light slipping, I've discovered a miracle product which will ensure this does not happen any more. It's called duct tape!Seriously though, the rubber strap on this thing isn't up to the task of holding a relatively heavy light to slick metal bars. However the addition of a small single piece of duct tape around the bars when you plan to strap down the light will give the rubber something to hold onto and it will stay in place just fine. My daily commute is down a steep hill with some pretty bumpy sections and the light doesn't budge since I put that little strip of duct tape on the bars. And yes, the rubber strap probably is going to break eventually. But it's $3 for a new one. Order a few at the same time [...]and you've got a super bright light that's going to last you for years for under $100 out the door. Well worth it for the ease of moving the light between bike IMHO.That being said, if you only have one primary bike that you ride most of the time, don't buy this light! You'll probably be happier with a screw-on mounted light that you never have to worry about slipping. But if you need a real powerful light, and also need to be able to remove and attach it easily, this is pretty much the only worthwhile product on the market.

I love the light output and brightness/blink settings on this light. It throws plenty of light out when I'm commuting. I ride an unlit river path so not only does it help me see, it helps walkers know I'm coming up from behind with plenty of warning so they don't wander out in front of me. I love that it's rechargeable and it's great that it's easy to move from one bike to another, or sometimes I take it off just to use it as a flashlight because it's brighter than any other flashlight I own. That portability comes with a price though. You really have to crank down on the strap mount to get the light to stay put. It's not like the light will fall of the bike and get damaged, but on some of the rougher parts of my commute, I've had the light suddenly rotate down so it's pointed straight down, usually at very inopportune moments when I really need to see in front of me. Once it's cranked down properly (VERY TIGHTLY), it's fine, but it's kind of a pain. When you think you've got it tight enough, it's not. Go one more hole. I wish it had the option of a hard mount. Or it could have been made with a strap that was "stickier" so it wouldn't rotate around the handlebar so easily. Maybe I should "spill" some soda on it or something to make it sticky. But all in all, even despite the mount issue, I would definitely recommend this light to others. You get a lot of light for the buck with it, and you don't have to have wires going to a separate battery, which I find annoying. I had hoped to be able to use the light for the occasional night mountain bike ride, but I'm not sure I'd trust it to stay put for that. Haven't tried though.

I bought 2 of these about 1.5 years ago for my wife and me. They are great for our 30-45min commute. As others indicated, the mount is not the best. It won't fall off or anything, but even pulled as tight as possible on the rubber strap, mine always starts to rotate forward as I ride (road only). When I got new handlebars that are the flatter aero tops, it's all good. The flatter bar keeps the light from rotating, so it is great for me now.
Quick to recharge. No external battery and cords to mess with. Worked great for me on a double century, took both, dropped one for night, used one for the morning. Plenty bright for suburban commutes.

While I saw other reviews that showed mounting hardware / scheme was not ideal, I had the ability to mount the lights (duals-2each on my commuter bike) upside down below the bars, putting the weight and moment at the bottom and have had no troubles with mount or movement of the lights. Really bright, quality lights. Price on closeout was fantastic.

great, have only had for a short while, I hope the soft mount lasts a long time, it is also hard to get tight, so it moves around, even on the road, but not too bad, perfect for my wife who rides a bit less agressive, all around pleased

Very bright light, even on the low beam I can cycle dark streets easily.
There was a common complain about the mount in reviews. However, the mount works perfectly fine for me - just flip it upside down and hang it under the bar. Weight is pulling it down naturally - no slipping or tuning in my experiense.
To be even better, it could use other blinking modes. However, the basic one works just fine for me.

I've had the product for about a week and I'm impressed with it so far. I mainly ride after work for a few miles to unwind so I'm often caught on the city streets after dark. I prefer to use it on strobe mode since the city lights are adequate for me to see the ground. I like to use it in high congestion areas so that cars can see me in their side and rearview mirrors and as I approach intersections. If bright is what you want, then this is definitely the light for you. I can see its reflection on street signs very clearly from at least 50 yards away. One caveat is it it will move around if its not mounted as tightly as possible... it will still move even after it is tightened it to its limit. To correct this I put a strip of double sided mounting tape on my handlebars and it has done the trick. The light is very bright so I actually aim it downward slightly to avoid blinding drivers in the oncoming lane. The charging port cover and function button are not very sturdy and are easy to inadvertently pop out. Though I've never mounted it on my helmet, it would be way to bulky to wear on your head.

Comments about Light & Motion Vega 200 LED Bike Light - '09 Closeout:
The description says "Tool-free mount allows it to go from the handlebar to your helmet in seconds", but this product DOESN'T include a helmet mount. It can be attached to the top of a helmet, BUT the light is so very, very heavy that it will drag your helmet off your head, so this definitely won't work as a headlight if you want to see where you're looking (as opposed to where the bike is going). If I'd known that I wouldn't have bought it.
Also, you can't remove the light from the mount, and so you have to mess with the mount (which is flimsy, as everyone has mentioned) every time you use the light (especially to charge it). Which is far from ideal.
It is, however, very, very bright! Which is excellent for biking in the country or on paths, as long as you don't have any oncoming traffic (cars, bikes, pedestrians, etc.) who will surely be blinded by the light on high power. :-)

I'll probably come up with a better mount on my own. If you aren't handy, you might want to look elsewhere.
