Comments about Granite Gear Compressor Sack - 16 Liters:
I really like these compression sacks. The weight is very light, although most compression sacks on the market are becoming lighter so that is really a generalization. The product durability in the construction is really stellar as you can really crank down without having to worry about ripping or breaking straps which you often see in generic brands. The material is a ripstop nylon that is a stronger material than they use to use about 10 years ago. I really have nothing bad to say about them as they are a simple product with no bells and whistles. I own 32 of them of various sizes and have had 14 of them for around 4 years. I guide mountaineering trips in the Andes in the late summer and fall and loan a lot of equipment out to clients. I constantly loan these compression sacks out and you can only imagine how the clients treat them. Need less to say they get a lot of abuse, but I have only had one with a minor defect.

Comments about Granite Gear Compressor Sack - 16 Liters:
I bought one of these two summers ago for a week-long trip through the North Cascades. I have an old North Face Cat's Meow that didn't come with a compression sack, so I bought one of these. It worked well for the duration of the trip, but when I got home, I realized the "wavy" part had started to tear away from the ends.
I'll admit, I beat the tar out of this thing trying to make my sleeping bag as small as possible, but such normal use shouldn't cause a product to last a mere week -- at least, I don't think so...
For the past couple of years, I've made do with the mediocre sack that came with the bag; now, I'm in the market for a replacement stuff sack. I won't be considering Granite Gear's products this time around.

Great product compacts well.
I would recomend not to put sharp or "pointy" gear in this because it tears quite easily i have 3 of them and they work great (without sharp gear).

Comments about Granite Gear Compressor Sack - 16 Liters:
I've used my Granite Gear compression sack on every major hike, campout, and long distance trip i've been on for the last two years. At Philmont Scout Ranch I took it on a 98 mile hike for twelve days and it held my towel, 2 changes of clothes, and my sleeping bag and was able o fit all of it in the sleeping bag compartment of my back pack. It has held up great so far and I intend to use it for many more trips to come. Thanks REI!

Comments about Granite Gear Compressor Sack - 16 Liters:
I got the 9L and it easily holds my Big Agnes Copper Spur UL2 w/footprint (no poles). Compresses down to about 1/2 the volume of original tent stuff sack. You could probably put a 3-person UL tent in the 9L.
When dealing with anything fabric based (tents, sleeping bags, clothes, etc.) the Granite Gear compression sacks give me at least 50% compression over regular stuff sacks. It doesn't change the weight but it significantly reduces the bulkiness of my pack. I'll probably get a another one of these for my bulky winter gear (gloves, hats, gaiters, liners, anything Polartec, etc.) and I'll get the next size up for my clothes.
Only other drawback is that even though they compress well, sometimes you end up with these shapes that don't fit well in a backpack and don't use the space efficiently. I'm not sure that issue is specific to this product but it would be nice to see a manufacturer address that issue.
Disclaimer: I haven't used these as extensively as some other reviewers so I can't attest to their longevity ... though I have no reason to doubt it as the construction quality appears solid.

Comments about Granite Gear Compressor Sack - 16 Liters:
This is a handy thing to have. Personally, I use this to stuff my sleeping bag in on backpacking trips. I have a friend who uses one to put clothes in. Basically the main use is to not take up much volume in your pack. To me, carrying a compact load is even more important than carrying a light load.
This helps you by concentrating most of the weight towards your center of gravity when packed properly. This will make your load feel lighter than a load of the same weight that is not evenly distributed along your back.
This isn't a waterproof product so don't go leaving it out in the weather for long. The smallest size packs my down sleeping bag well.
