The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
Price is what drove me to pick this pack over some of the other ones I saw at REI. That at I have typically had good experiences with the store brand.Having never owned a hydration belt before I didn't really know what to look for, test out, or expect.Likes: ample storage, secure bottle holderDislikes: *Adjusting the tensioning is awkward - if you don't adjust the velcro just right it will pull on a performance top*I don't like the way this hugs my lower back. The top portion of the belt seems to lean outward which means the belt "flops" against my back while running, which is really annoying.I have to check their return policy, if I'm stuck with this I'll probably sell it on [...]for something better. It might be better for hikes where you're not moving at a jog/run.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
I am training for a half marathon and have been using a camelback back pack, but decided I wanted to try a waistpack. I went to the store so I could try them on, and this one felt comfortable and didn't seem to bounce when I jumped up and down.
Today I took it out for a 5 mile test run. Right away I noticed that it becomes extremely bouncy once the bottle is full. I could not find a comfortable spot to wear it on my waist. Low on my hips, the bottle would bounce and jab me in the back. Higher than that would bounce less, but was squeezing my stomach. Even in the most comfortable position, it really did not feel like it fit my body. I am a tall, thin, female, and I wonder if it is made for male bodies? Also the straps are the same material that are used to tighten a backpack strap, and it digs into the skin and would probably chafe quite a bit if I used it for much longer. The pack also constantly rides up and has to be pushed down. The bouncing decreased once the bottle was about half empty, but then the riding up increased at that point.
The pack does have a large capacity, plenty of room for keys, cell phone, ipod, snacks, and chapstick with room to spare. The bottle seems pretty nice but dripped slightly when drinking. It does not leak when in the harness. As other reviewers suggested, it would probably be better for hiking/walking. Just too bouncy during a run.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
Affordability and durability have always been synonymous with the REI brand for me. I was shocked when this pack failed miserably.
My initial impressions were that the pack was a nice fit and that there was room for gels and possibly my phone. However, after the initial steps of a short run, the tensioning system was compromised, as the bottle somehow jostled its way out of the pouch, cracking the top of the bottle upon impact with the ground. This rendered the bottle useless, as all of the water sloshed out of the bottle as I continued the run. The belt and bottle shifted in irritating unison.
I've switched to the Camelbak Delaney Race pack and have had zero issues since.
As other reviewers have noted, if you were to stand still or walk very little and require the use of a waist pack, this may work for you.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
The belt does not stay cinched - I had to constantly adjust during the one and only run I will do with this item. It is going back for a refund! The imbalance of weight due to location of the bottle means that the belt also shifts while running.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
I really disliked the idea of running with any kind of pack attached to my body, but when I was training for a marathon a few years ago, I found 8-10 miles was about as far as I could go without water. I don't imagine that there is any way strap things to one's body and have it be comfortable while running, but being a little uncomfortable is better than dehydration. Just as I expected, the waist band chafed a little and the bouncing was annoying, but I had water and an energy bar ready when I needed it.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
My experience with this product is VERY different than most here. I use this pack for running, and have worn it on many long runs as part of my training for my first ultra-marathon -- runs of up to 22 miles. While I have to fiddle the adjustments ever few miles, I've found that true for any pack or hydration system.
I have also replaced the bottle with an Ultimate Direction one (the bottle it comes with is fine, if generic), but the pack works great. The bottle has never jostled out for me, and the various pockets let me carry my phone, a camera, and enough gels for 3-4 hours of running. I don't find that the pack bounces at all, and it hasn't rubbed or chaffed either.
Would a more expensive pack work better? Probably. But for the cost, this does the job fine.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
I have read all the reviews on this product. If you are looking for a top of the line pack or hydration system this is not it. If you are looking for an inexpensive way to carry more fluid, food, wallet, keys or even a wrench or two than this will do. I take this pack on my long bike rides. Works fine for that. Not a pack I want to take on runs or even short bike rides. If you need to carry some extra stuff this is a cheap way of doing it.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
Bought this for use running 20-30 miles per week. First time out I found that the water bottle "jumps" out of the holster during running. This was disheartening because the pack is very comfortable on the waist. The mesh lining is quite soft and wicks nicely. To combat the "jumping" bottle I went to REI and purchased Gear Ties to hold the bottle in. This seems to work great, haven't road tested it just yet. I did some hopping around the house with this set up (see picture) and the bottle didn't come out. Plenty of room for keys, phone, what-have-you in the pockets. Another person did comment that the velcro strap restraints did pull on clothing. I haven't found a way around that yet and it does ruin shirts that have a loose thread sewing. (most running shirts)I like the pack, but it isn't perfect.

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
I use this pack for walking and biking. It works great for my outdoor activity needs. I especially like the multiple pockets to hold keys, ids, cash, cellphone, and iPod. The water bottle is easy to remove and replace in the sling. The fit is comfortable. Great pack!

Comments about REI Single Shot Waist Pack:
With the negative reviews, I was skeptical. I have used this for running 3 times now (4-6 miles each run). I find it to be comfortable and convenient. I wear it with the bottle in the back. It does not bounce and I do not have to wear it excessively tight. I would almost not know it was there except for the sound of water sloshing. The storage pockets are great. If needed, I can pack my phone, ID, gel, and keys with room to spare. I paid [$] and find it to be of great value while training for a half marathon. Only negative: you have to rotate the pack almost 180 degrees around your waist or remove it to access the storage pockets.
