Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
This is the 4th of these chairs in my immediate family. The latest was a gift for one of my sons. They are great for any type of use. I use mine frequently for baseball games and practices. It fits in my schoolbag right next to papers that need grading. The kids love them for gaming chairs in the rec room.

Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
Easy to set up, small and compact and really pretty comfortable. It might be too heavy to take to the Grand Canyon though but I am sure I will find many other opportunities to use it. Looks to be perfect kayak camping.

Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
I've used this chair numerous times and places (in sand, on rock, in water, etc). It's comfortable to sit in and lean back in. I sometimes splurge on the pack wight to take it if I'm going to be in one camp for a while. It doesn't weigh much or take up much room so it's worth it. It's built well, sturdy, and can be assembled quickly. It can be a little tricky to get in and out of and takes some balance (especially if the feet sink into the ground). I recently did an 18 mile technical hike in the Grand Canyon. When I went to sit in it the next morning my legs were a little sore and I fell over backwards twice. Good thing it sits pretty low to the ground. I considered getting a competitor's chair instead because it had 4 legs but it was bigger, heavier, and seemed flimsier. I've been happy with the purchase of the Alite chair and got two more for friends. The chair has also been the cause of several conversations with random people who are curious about it. So if you have balance issues or don't like strangers coming up to talk to you then go with a different one.

Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
I love this chair. I wish I had it on past treks. My previous backpacking chair was more compact when collapsed, but it was heavier and had no back support. This chair gives me the back support I need after a day of hiking/backpacking. It doesn't even require level ground to use it. You can rock in it, but don't fall asleep in it. You'll fall over.
I took it on a mission trip to Honduras the week I got it. Every morining I hiked up the mountain, climbed the water tower, set up the chair and watch the sun rise over the mountain along the coast. WOW!

Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
While casting about the store to find a way to use up the last of the meager limits of my debit card, I noticed this...
First, the con. This chair will induce jealousy in backpacking companions. That's how I came to need one; I'd seen it on another trip.
There's really no substitute for sitting above the ground, and when you can do it in something this light, sturdy and compact - it's ON. And as any teenager can tell you, a chair that is designed to rock back is a true work of art. Tip back, lace your fingers behind your head and close your eyes.

This chair is great. You have to use your legs to balance, but that makes it more fun for me to sit in. Sometimes I study in it so that I don't fall asleep and collapse.

Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
I bought two of these chairs before right before a backpacking trip with my fiancé. I figured it would be better than sitting on rocks...my fiancé did not seem entirely convinced. However, that hesitation was immediately gone as soon as we set up the chairs in camp the first night.
What we loved about these chairs:
--They are ridiculously easy to set up and break down.
--They are so light! This was our first backpacking trip, so our bags were on the heavy side...but we never regretted carrying these chairs.
--They are really comfortable to sit in, way better than sitting on the ground or on a rock.
--They are easy to balance on. I did fall backwards once on uneven ground, but since you're so close to the ground to begin with, it really doesn't hurt!
--They are also great to lean back in. I had read a review before leaving on the trip that mentioned this. During our trip, we spent one evening in our tent due to the high winds outside. We set up these chairs in our two person REI tent and we were able to use them just to lean back -- this was absolutely wonderful considering we spent several hours in the tent, awake.
By the end of the trip, both myself and my fiancé were 100% sold on this chair. We will be keeping ours, and we highly recommend that you try it out if you're considering the purchase.

Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
I had mentioned to my wife that I like the design of the chair, and she got me one for my birthday. I took it back packing with me the next weekend and was sold. My friends with me bought them as well after seeing and trying mine. Its great to lounge in or to sit on more like a stool when you are cooking on the ground at a campsite.

Comments about Alite Monarch Butterfly Chair:
This chair is pretty awesome but not for everybody. Yes it only has two "legs" so you have to get used to it but it is more comfortable than those triangle stools and lighter than the big camp chairs with the cup holders. The only downside to the two-legged-ness would be that it falls over when you are not sitting on it. Not too terrible but slight annoyance. I think they make a 4 leg version but I would probably stick to this one.
