Comments about Light & Motion Stella 120 LED Bike Light:
This light is "perfect" for commuting. Straps on and off no problem. Lightweight battery straps under your bar stem. It really doesn't get much more convenient than this.
I'm not sure if I would use it off-road. Maybe as a head light? I've used many lights and will say this one is perfect for commuting. You don't want more power as you will get a hot spot and won't be able to see what's around you (outside your beam).

Comments about Light & Motion Stella 120 LED Bike Light:
After buying the Stella 180 for my bike, I got the Stella 120 several years later for my wife, thinking it was similar. The more we use it the more we find it is light years behind the 180. For starters, the 180 had a great mounting system. There was a permanent base, and the light slid on and off easily. This allowed you to adjust the beam up or down and left or right, even while riding. The 120 is in the same position on the handlebar once you tighten the strap. The strap is easy to place, but it does not seem as sturdy as the old system. Second, the first time we tried using it the cord from the light that attaches to the battery kept popping out. This meant we either had no light or stopped every couple of minutes to fix it. I know carry electrical tape for such occasions. It works but the 180 connection is solid and has never fallen out. The 120's cord is also short, meaning unless you place the battery very close to the light you run the risk of it pulling on the cord when you turn the handlebars. Finally the Stella is supposed to have 3 setting but the one I bought has just one. I'm working to get this replaced/fixed. The light output is not bad, and certainly better than the older self contained battery lights, but it doesn't quite have the blinding power on high that the 180 did. I'm fine with less for tame riding, but commuting on the streets at night I would not settle for the 120's beam. I'd recommend looking at the Stella 150 or 200 (since they no longer make the 180, though you can find it online still) unless you want a very basic light and have great eyes.

Comments about Light & Motion Stella 120 LED Bike Light:
I have owned this light for over a year, and while I hesitated making the purchase at first due to the price, I have never regretted it. Even as an entry level light for the heavy duty bike light systems, it throws a lot of light and provides ample coverage for riding in the dark.
I have used this light on and off road (not heavy duty mountain biking - just trails that are not paved) and it has enough power to give me warning of upcoming potholes and other things to avoid. I've even used it with a friend who had forgotten his headlight.
The blinking feature is helpful when I am riding in traffic, more as a way to remind cars that I exist.
Lighting is essential if you will be riding anytime but during the bright parts of the day. If you are on the fence about spending $100+ on a light, don't - it's worth every penny.
