    My daughter wanted an alternative to a traditional backpack for school (4th grade). Her messenger bag last year was poor quality (straps twisted up)and normal tote bags are shapeless, have no shoulder strap, don't zip closed, and are very flimsy. I have a ton of Timbuk2 bags, and they all high quality, tough, and very useful. This one solved all our problems, and functions great as a school backpack
