Comments about Patagonia Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boots - Men's:
The shoe went right on, and there it stayed until what I needed to do was done. Support around the ankles was comfortable. The shoe was a little heavy, from that heaviness, though, came confidence when things were a little slippery. I have sweaty feet. So far, this hasn't made me want to rip them off my feet despite wearing them for extended periods of time. I like that Patagonia appears to want to help the environment in its manufacture of goods. Shoe's good looking. I'd add better shoe laces. I also wouldn't bring the leather down so far to the sole. I worry about mud. These suggestions are minor, though. I'd buy them again. (on my 4th pair of Patagonias) The shoe design is novel and appealing. ned[...]

Comments about Patagonia Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boots - Men's:
I never thought Patagonia made casual shoes until I saw these in my local REI store. I have been looking for a boot type mocccasin for a long type now.
I was a little skeptical about the sole of the shoe looking a bit aggresive, seeing as i was not going hiking in these instead using them in the urban environment and for airline travel. However I was plesantly surprised that they are not too aggresive and indeed provide good grip even on the slickest ground. The first time I wore them right out the box I had them on for 6 hours of non stop walking without so much as a rub or any uncomfort.
I love the fact that the lace eyelets are hidden by the flap type front, but the laces themselves look kind of flimsy and look like them will not last as long as the shoe will last.
The cost is quite large and will probably be a major deciding factor to a lot of people (including me) however I feel that the quality and comfort of these shoes are truly worth it, if the sold them in black I'd buy a pair of those too.
Service and delivery comments:
I actually went to the store to buy these shoes and they did not have them in stock. However the sales associate told me to order them on-line. I told her I did not like ordering shoes on line as your not quite sure of the size. She then told me order two pairs and vring the pair that does not fit back to the store and we will give you an instant credit. I never thought it would be so easy to order and return a product, the shipping was precise, a tracking number was available and bringing the pair that didn't fit was a breeze.

This shoe boot has the best grip ever. I was walking over exposed wet roots and had good grip. I wear these everyday to work and to walk the dogs afterward. I am probably going to buy another pair of these so when the first pair wears out, I'll have a nice new pair ready to go.
The only part of this shoe that i have not liked is the label on the insole.
Oh, and these are great in the mud too :-)

Comments about Patagonia Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boots - Men's:
As I recently moved to Seattle I was looking for a shoe that would keep my feet dry and warm through the rainy winter. I bought this boot as it met those needs and didn't look like my hiking boots. The tread on them is great in the city as well as in the mountains, though not for particularly long or difficult hikes. My only complaint about them is that they are not terribly breathable. I have had them for around two months now and almost every day when I take my feet out my socks are moist (near the toes and bottom of the foot) regardless of what type of sock I am wearing. I think this may be due to the double whammy of the gore-tex and the leather. If you can get past this issue this is a great shoe you can wear everyday.

Comments about Patagonia Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boots - Men's:
These have been the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I will buy another pair when these wear out. They keep my feet dry, and the soles seem to wear very well. The laces are cheesy though and failed while the shoes were pretty new. I replaced them with better laces. I have worn these almost daily for at least a year.
The only problem with them now is that they have gotten pretty stinky. I tossed them in the washer (front loader) this morning and now they are drying in the sun. I think this will handle the funk, and I will oil the leather when they are all dry.
GREAT SHOES!

Ugly enough to wear in Seattle without feeling like a dandy, but handsome enough to wear abroad in snowy cities. Good to walk in, easy to pack, very comfortable and very weather-tight.

love this boot. If difficult for me to find shoes that dont leave my knees sore at the end of the day. I have had two knee surgeries, and while I am only 24, I can absolutely say for people with arthritis or knee issues these boots are worth going for. They have been on my feet every day since purchased and I am extremely pleased. they have done well from light trail walks to following my girlfriend through the mall while christmas shopping. they are a little expensive but worth it in my opinion.

Comments about Patagonia Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boots - Men's:
I bought these shoes for a long trip through Europe, thinking they'd be perfect for a lot of walking, keep my feet warm and dry in the cold/wet months of November and December, and look good enough to go out to dinner in. As other reviewers have commented they are indeed warm, can be worn comfortably all day, and clean up well for a night out. Unfortunately these boots (at least my pair) fail when it comes to keeping water out.
The seal between the rubber and the leather is poor and lets water in, making these boots useless if you come across a puddle. To make matters worse, moisture is retained deep inside the sole; I let them air out for a week before wearing them again, only to have hours of walking in them draw more moisture out, right into my socks and the polartec lining. They're not at all comfortable when wet inside and refuse to dry; I don't imagine they'd be great in warmer (sweatier) conditions either.
I've got a month left of travel before I get home, and can't wait to get these wet, stinky shoes out of my suitcase and returned for a refund. They're just bulky deadweight until then.

Comments about Patagonia Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boots - Men's:
Living in Seattle, this is truly the perfect winter shoe. Seattle being a casual town, I can wear these to most to most any gastropub or reasonably upscale eatery, yet the trail-quality sole is perfect for long hikes, too. It's not uncommon for us to mix a day out-and-about the city with an afternoon hike, so it's great to have a single shoe that both looks sharp in a coffee house and performs admirably on the trail.
100% waterproof for all those drizzly days and Polartec-lined with a merino wool insole, these shoes are comfortable beyond words and swaddle my feet without ever making them sweaty.
Really the only drawback is the ridiculously long shoestrings, but of course those are easily replaced.

Comments about Patagonia Ranger Smith Waterproof Mid Boots - Men's:
I have had these boots for a week now and wore them every day. A lot of reviews said that these were small or tight. A good fit for me as I have a size 9 length but bony feet with no meat on them and a high arch. My custom orthotics fit nicely. These boots fit like a glove. The second day wearing them I walked for about 5 hours and my feet felt great. If you have normal feet go a half size larger. Thinking of buying one or two more as it is so hard to find shoes/boots that fit so well and I know after I wear these out I will not be able to find another pair.
