Comments about Esbit Stove and Cookset:
This Esbit Stove set is a very well-made and looks great. The hard-anodizing is well executed, the fold out handles are strong, the lid fits well. Once placed on the windshield, the stove/pot combo is very stable. The windshield stand on 4 legs that keeps it off the ground about 3/8 of an inch.Having used the Fold-Out type of Esbit stoves in the past, I expected it to work better: it has a dedicated windshield unit that fits inside the 500 ml pot. I set it up on patio. The wind was a gentle breeze. The temperature was about 65F. The flame soon reached the bottom of the tiny pot. I clocked it. I waited. 5 minutes... 10 minutes... I see tiny bubbles on the bottom. The Esbit tablet is down to about 1/3. 15 minutes, and still no boil. The esbit tablet is done for. Just tiny bubbles on the bottom.I checked the instruction, and it never said that Esbit boils. The stove is for warming up food and heating water. The pot's small surface area really does not absorb enough heat from the flame, and the most of the flame just escapes through the vent holes near the top of the windshield.I considered returning it, but then I realized that it fits inside the Primus Litech Trek Kettle perfectly. I suspect that the same manufacturer that made the Trek Kettle made Esbit also--the way the handles are riveted, the way the petit beak is pointed, it gives me the idea. But for[$], one should get something more efficient than a folding type Esbit. After all you can get the Esbit Folder for around $10 with extra tablets. I expected this stove to boil better in the breeze, because it has the windshield. How wrong I was!I must say, I am hugely disappointed by this tiny stove set.Oh, one more thing: if you are going to use it, fill the pot with water up to 400 ml mark, and boil it on a stove. There is some kind of chemical that needs to be bleached out of the anodizing compound. Heating it creates suds, and it will overflow. So, take it off the flame, before it overflows and kills the stove. Change the water and repeat, until the pot does not bubble up with the suds. If you are just warming up with the Esbit tablet, you see only a small amount of suds floating on the surface of the water. Boiling with a powerful stove amplifies it. I do not think it would be a good idea to drink the chemical, whatever it might be.

Just out of the box, this little stove and cook pot combination looks very impressive. It is very well constructed and finished, and extremely stable.
I have used Esbit stoves for decades. With all fuel tablet stoves, you must use a windscreen. To make the fuel easy to light, I carry a small plastic bottle filled with alcohol. Just a few drops on the fuel tablet, and it lights instantly.
My results for this stove were on a day with a gentle breeze, 21 Celsius. I made a simple windscreen out of tin foil. I filled the cup with 16oz of room temperature water, placed the cup and lid on the stove, and lit 1 fuel tab. The water came to a full boil in 10 minutes, and kept boiling for 2 more minutes. After the first fuel tab was used up, I lit one more tab. The water returned to a full boil in 1 minute, and kept boiling for 12 minutes.
After I let the stove cool completely, I lit one more fuel tab. With this one tab, I was able to fry up 3 breakfast sausages and 2 eggs!
I did have to make several adjustments to the windscreen, but other than that, this little unit performed great! As long as you protect the stove from the wind, it will always work. Of course there is no temperature control, but you just take the pot lid off, or lift the whole pot off the stove for a minute or so. My next test is to try a small meat and vegetable stir fry!
This is now my primary backpacking stove---I love it so much I will soon buy another one!

FIRST TIME TRIAL IN THE BACK YARD WAS A DISASTER. Even with a wind screen around it this thing never got the little pot to boil. The water got warmish but never did boil. Did some poking around on the internet ... and found others with the same complaint, and one wonderful solution. All of the other espit stove have lots of air flow. This one does not, so .. the fix is ; drill several holes on the bottom of the stove around plate that holds the tablet = great air flow = 4 minutes till boiled water ! You really must use a wind screen though . Now Im glad that I purchased this lil stove.Very light weight and very fuel efficient.

Comments about Esbit Stove and Cookset:
This stove is lightweight and the base is stable, however, it never brought even water to a boil, just to a very weak bubble. Consequently, water coffee and tea was lukewarm. It took longer, much longer to warm the water or food then stated, basically you have to use one full piece of solid fuel to make a cup of coffee. These were sunny, basically dry conditions and there was very little breeze. The handle was a nice feature which basically made it a very nice camping cup.

This is NOT meant to replace a gas or propane stove. If you want to boil water fast, buy an MSR or something. This really is minimalist gear, for people who aren't antsy about how long it takes to heat something up. If you need the water hot quick, use a windscreen and two fuel tabs.
As for cleaning, take a plastic scrubber with you. A little water and elbow grease will clean that 'greasy residue' off the pot fast.

Comments about Esbit Stove and Cookset:
Previous comments mention the unit does not bring water to a boil. Use a windscreen. I use the screen that came with a little alcohol stove...tin foil will do just as well with a vent in it. With the screen just below the handles and fairly close to the pot the heat stays with the pot and boil times are just like the older folding model. A little heavier and bulkier than the original, but not by much. This little unit will go with me, if not as a main burner, but certainly as a backup. Great for day trips.

Comments about Esbit Stove and Cookset:
My first time out I spent on a breezy ridge. It took forever to light & keep going. I ended up using my wet boots as a wind screen. It took 4 tabs and 1/2 a book of matches to boil enough water for tea & a freeze dried meal. I've used it since then on 2 more 30 mile hikes. It takes near 20 minutes before I've had enough water ready for tea & a meal. I've used that time for camp chores.
Yes it's light but extra tabs & matches add weight. I figure 2 to 3 tabs average per meal which need pliers or tongs to place the extra tab into the existing flame. I use a sheet of aluminum foil now as a wind screen even on windless venues. It's easy to tip over with the 4 feet, 3 would be better. The pot is easy to clean inside. The tabs leave a sticky residue on the burner pan & pot. The pot itself is easy to clean but the burner pan has yet to be cleaned up. For 2 nights out the pot can hold enough fuel tabs.
I did read the other reviews. I chose this one for I have a 20 year old canister stove I cannot find fuel for any more. I figure the tabs will be findable in a few years or I can make a small alchol burner for it.
If you are planning a few years of hiking or a lot of trips, or are short on time in camp, this is not your stove. Save your money, time & frustration get a multi-liquid stove.
