Comments about Vargo Outdoors Titanium Jet-ti Stove - '08 Closeout:
Pros - One of the best canister stoves for backpacking. It is one of the lightest and most indestructible stoves that exist. Excellent flame control and better heat dispersion than the pocket rocket. Combine it with an jetboil GCS pot or primus eta pot for a highly efficient light weight stove. The stove, some foil, a lighter fit in a small ti cup easily.
Cons - large pots can be tippy and not highly wind resistant (these are the problems with all stoves of this type). No pezo igniter (you should have a source of flame with you anyway)

i'm buying another so i can have one in the truck to take to fires. i wouldn't part w mine if i couldn't get another. 2"x3" in pouch. light and compact. a hot coffee or soup is good in cold wx. way below zero you need to warm canister or the fuel won't vaporize. that's not unusual for any stove. -30 or colder white gas works better. only unstable w too big a pot. i've used kitchen size pots and pans but was very slow and deliberate. had no trouble. about as bullet proof as they come. survived a "Backpacker Magazine" torture test. the only one to do so. what can i say. i love it.

Let's see - compact, durable, quick-to-cool, lightweight...Hard to beat it. What would I change? Not much. It is small so using a medium / large pot or pan might be unstable. However, I bought this for minimalist experience. A 1- or 2-cup container is perfect. Titanium should last forever. Oh yeah, it is incredibly efficient (i.e. you won't see the flame)...just turn it up a little and you will hear it!

Comments about Vargo Outdoors Titanium Jet-ti Stove - '08 Closeout:
I was looking for a tough, durable, reliable camp stove to use for hiking and also as an emergency stove in case we lost power for any period of time. Initially I was somewhat leery of going with a brand I'd never heard of, but the positive reviews on this site, and the fact that it was substantially discounted on the REI outlet, convinced me to give it a try. Let me just say, it is an extremely impressive little stove. It seems to be solidly designed and built - lightweight but tough and durable. It doesn't have a piezo igniter, but I wouldn't want to rely on that feature anyway - I always make sure I'm carrying a lighter and waterproof matches in a metal holder. My kids were highly impressed as I boiled rice in a Snow Peak cookware set, also purchased from REI. The flame control is great - you can really crank it up or set it on a low simmer, as well as everything in between. If you use it out in the wild it's a good idea to try to find some nook or crannie where you're sheltered from the wind before cooking or boiling something. It would also make a great addition to a bugout bag in case one needs to hurriedly flee a zombie onslaught. I may order a second one as a spare or back-up, because at this price and quality you really can't go wrong.
Service and delivery comments:
Having my order sent to my local REI store was great - fast and free, doesn't get any better than that. Of course the staff at the Colorado Springs REI store on Woodman are without exception helpful, knowledgable, and very pleasant to deal with.

Costs the same as (or slightly more than) the MSR Pocket Rocket, but I'd say its trivially better. Certainly less bulky in its case, and it seems to eat fuel less greedily as well. It might be marginally more stable... but like all small canister stoves it's inherently not stable with big pots, etc.
Can't comment on temperature control too much in that I always burn oatmeal when I cook it in the mornings, regardless of the stove I use.
Overall, good stove. I use it. You'll be able to as well.

This is a wonderful stove. Just as efficient a as the Snow Peak titanium giga offering. You don't want the lightest Snow Peak Lite Max... It is not as efficient as this Vargo Ti or the giga. This stove is much cheaper than the Snow peak giga titanium. It is made by the same plant that makes the Snow Peak in another country. The simmer is excellent, and the same applies at max flame and everywhere in between. These are obviously made to use with the smaller solo styled pots... so do not expect brilliant stability if you throw your All Clad sized pots and pans atop this lil' burner. I have this Vargo Jet-Ti AND the Snow Peak Giga Titanium. They are so close in all areas, but I find that I reach for this one first. At this price it is a no brainer.... Just buy it!

This is the first canister stove I've bought and I couldn’t be happier. I was a little wary of going with a less Known brand but I couldn’t pass up the great deal on REI's outlet site. I haven't actually boiled a full liter of water yet so I don't know if their 4min boil time is accurate but it boils half a liter in just over 2min. I have only used this stove on one backpacking overnight so fare and it passed with flying colors. It was early spring and chilly, low 30's at night, so we made a lot of hot drinks plus supper and breakfast for two and we used up all most all of a 110g canister. The only con so fare is that with a large pot it is kind of unstable. Over all I am vary happy with it.
