Comments about NiteFLUX Photon 4 Commuter Bike Light:
This very bright, easy to use light is just great. There are no wires to worry with, as the battery is self-contained within the flashlight-like, easily mountable body. The recharge time is short, yet it burns on high for about 2 hours, losing little brightness. Perfect as a "be seen" light, and is also good for illuminating night road rides and commutes. I don't think it would be good as a single source for trail riding, but as a supplementary system it would certainly suffice. All in all, I've been quite happy with this purchase and I may even buy another because I like it so much. After all, when riding in the dark, more is better! All in all, this product serves my needs well and performs admirably. No product is "perfect," but this comes pretty darn close when you factor in all attributes, including price. I'm happy with this product.

Comments about NiteFLUX Photon 4 Commuter Bike Light:
I returned this product after reading the instruction manual, charging the battery as instructed, and assembling the unit. It never even made it onto my bicycle because of these fundamental design flaws:1) The headlight has three pieces: the light head (including the LED and some electronics), the battery unit (including the battery, a charging indicator lamp, and more electronics), and the mounting bracket. According to the instruction manual, the battery unit must be disassembled from the light head when the unit is not in use. Amazingly, if the battery unit and light head are attached, the light will spontaneously turn itself on even when the user has switched it off! Thus:A. you can't leave the headlight mounted to the bicycle between uses. If you turn off the headlight and leave it on the bicycle, assembled normally, after some minutes the light will turn itself back on and run down the battery!B. The same holds true if you remove the headlight from the mounting bracket without disassembling it, say to carry it to your office or home or campsite: the light will turn itself back on and run down the battery! This has been reported also by another reviewer at [@] . That reviewer thought that the problem rested with the switch being too easily depressed by other objects in his satchel; I can attest that the light will switch itself on with nothing touching the pushbutton switch at all!C. You cannot attach the light to a bicycle, aim it, and leave it on the bicycle while recharging it. You must disassemble it to get access to the charging socket, as well as to keep the light from turning itself onD. You cannot assemble the light on the bicycle before ambient lighting conditions require the use of the headlight, anticipating turning it on later in the ride when darkness or weather conditions require it.2) The light head and battery unit connect to one another by means of mating threads. Unfortunately, these threads in the aluminum casing are short, shallow, and extremely coarse (about 4 threads per inch!). It is difficult to align the two pieces properly as needed to assemble the unit. Aluminum being a sticky and relatively soft material, neither hard like steel nor self-lubricating like nylon, the user will likely damage these threads in normal use by attempting to screw the two pieces together without having the two parts aligned perfectly. If the threads get damaged, the headlight becomes useless.3) The back end of the battery unit includes a lamp that glows red when the battery is being charged and glows green when the charge is completed. Unfortunately, the battery unit, disconnected from the light head, began to flash red again when off the charger. I could not make it stop flashing red. Imagine having a flashing red LED, which you cannot turn off, in your tent all night after a long day of bicycle touring.4) Each time that I assembled the light head to the battery case, the light turned itself on immediately. If I turned it off using the switch, disassembled it, and reassembled it, it would again immediately turn itself on. Given the extreme brightness of this light, needing to protect myself and my companions from its undesired bursts of light is another annoyance that I am unwilling to tolerate.
