Comments about Merrell Saugatuck Sandals - Men's:
Tried the Merrell Saugatuck's at the REI store in comparison to the Keen Newport H2's. I ended up going with the Keen H2's instead. The Merrell's are nice and had a good fit but they are more similar to their Moab Ventilator hiking shoes which than a water sport sandal. I am sure they will work as advertised in water but they were a little more shoe and a little less sandal than I was looking for. I wear a size 11 with the Merrell Moab Ventilator shoes. The Saugatuck's seemed to be on par with those size and fit wise.

Comments about Merrell Saugatuck Sandals - Men's:
These shoes are amazingly comfortable but could breathe better, they will leave your feet pretty sweaty in any kind of heat, that's not my complaint though.
I went through two pairs of these shoes in just 2 months, the design is defective. The strap that goes around your ankle is held in place by a very thin and flimsy piece of plastic that breaks after a relatively small amount of wear, this happened to me with 3 shoes from 2 different pairs. The first time I figured it was a fluke so I exchanged them (hassle free, thank you REI). Unfortunately the next pair lasted an even shorter amount of time, I last wore these hiking and BOTH of the shoes broke within 10 minutes of each other in the exact same spot, totally shocking. After this experience, I'm pretty convinced Merrell does zero real world testing on their products, there's no possible way these could have left any quality assurance program intact if they were given to anyone even remotely active. Very disappointed with the shoes lack of performance given their level of comfort, but very satisfied with REI's hassle free return policy for defective items.

Comments about Merrell Saugatuck Sandals - Men's:
Although I really enjoyed these shoes when I first purchased them at the store, within a week my love had turned into ambivalence, and within 2 weeks my love had turned into complete dislike. You know how people sometimes say that "it'll grow on you"? These shoes grew "off of me."
I purchased these shoes because I am going to be traveling abroad soon and I wanted some comfortable and durable shoes that were going to be able to handle uneven terrain. On needs 2 & 3 these shoes did well; however I just can't bring myself to wear shoes if my feet don't feel good in them.
The reason why I disliked these shoes so much are because they constantly left my feet sweaty. This might not have been so bad on its own, but the sweat ultimately led to blisters on my toes, which was a no-go for me.
Add the sweat/blister problem to the fact that the shoes were just really bulky and that they were of a color scheme (orange and brown) that didn't match with anything I own ... I had to send them back.
I'd recommend these shoes for outdoor activities, particularly around the water. But other than that, pass. There are better shoes out there.

Comments about Merrell Saugatuck Sandals - Men's:
These offer excellent support for a sandle/shoe. Better support than most shoes I own. Super comfortable. I've only had them for one summer, so can't rate their durability, but they seem very well constructed. Not quite so handy to get on as a regular sandle because you have to get your foot inside the stretchy lining, but it is a very minor drawback.

Comments about Merrell Saugatuck Sandals - Men's:
These are extremely comfortable, whether hiking over lava, wading ashore or just walking around. I've had mine for 3 months. The only problem I've had is that the stitching that holds the strap in place isn't strong enough. It broke and there's no way to fix it.

Comments about Merrell Saugatuck Sandals - Men's:
These worked out better than I could have hoped on this last backpacking excursion. The trail was in spotty marsh valleys with some water crossings. I didn't wear them the first day but the day we were coming back I wore them the last 6 miles. They hold well to the slippery rocks in streams and wear comfortably without slipping or rubbing when dry and wet.
However, debris did get in them kind of easily and depending on what it was, didn't come out unless I removed the footwear, but not the biggest deal. Also, not for a trail that is dusty because on the last mile and a half where there was no water or wet grass, the dust slowly made its way in over my toes and began to rub my little toes a lot, leaving small raw spots. I did this though simply because the last mile and a half was a hill and I wanted to see how these would handle that, and they did spectacularly by the way.
Other than my own intentional mistakes to see how these wore for long periods, these did excellent and I recommend them to anybody for almost any kind of trail. Never once did my feet hurt or feel unfomfortable, you just have to know when to take them off and switch footwear or just clean out the toe area a bit.

Comments about Merrell Saugatuck Sandals - Men's:
I love these sandals! They one of the most comfortable pair that I have ever worn. I have worn them in Gulf of Mexico in 4-6 foot waves while body surfing and didn't have any problems or feel that they were going to be ripped off my feet. I have also worn them in an open hull inflatable kayak surfing waves in Lake Michigan also without any problems. Give em a try!!
