Purchased for work/commute bag, needed to carry multiple manilla files (about 10), A4 hard-backed planner and daily essentials such as lunch, camelback straw bottle and scarf, umbrella, etc. (weather dependant). The new gussets on the bottom of these bags just eat the interior space. There is no way to use all of the slash and side pockets and still get in a small lunch (we're talking a frozen meal and a gladware container here, folks -- no WAY my Mr. Bento would fit). Accessing the interior pocket panel is impossible when the bag is loaded. The top of the bag is much roomier than the nipped-in bottom, creating an odd, bubbly "pocket" of space about your packed items that is really unusable. The worst issues revolve around the handles -- they are too long for someone my height (5 foot 4 inches) to carry brief-case style, yet they will NOT stay on your shoulder (too short and uncomfortable). This is a poor redesign of the cargo tote. It is only suitable for a small laptop and a few files. Anything else is miserable and cumbersome. Two thumbs way down. I am back to my Chrome messenger until a more suitable replacement is found.

This bag is a fantastic carry on for airline travel. It's exactly the right size to cram under the seat in front of you, even packed full. The zipper across the top is a key feature that makes this bag useful as luggage. I definitely recommend getting the grippy strap pad for it, also sold by REI. Makes carrying it so much more comfortable, and keeps the long strap from falling off your shoulder. Being a tote, this is NOT a bag for hiking or camping (unless you're camping in your car). But for its intended use it's just right. I've dropped it, dragged it, caught it on sharp things, but not a scratch or stain on it. I actually like the bag being wider at the top than the bottom. It makes it easier to dig out books and snacks when the bag is wedged between my seat, the seat in front of me, and two other passengers. I like it so much I just got one for my sister for her birthday.

This is a great heavy duty bag for back and forth from the office. I did not want a bag with a lap top pocket.. and this is the only bag that is not meant to carry a laptop. It has a nice easy to use zipper on top. No.. difficult flap to flip over to access your items.
Inside items are easy to get to if you do not overload the bag. If you overload the bag... maybe you need a larger bag?
It is great for what is it meant to do.. I carry a extra insulated lunch bag... as this bag is meant for office related items...
I would highly recommend this bag. It was great to find such a heavy duty bag at such a great price!
