Comments about Marmot Ultima Jacket - Men's:
I bought this jacket in fall with the idea of having a light weight jacket to wear in fall and spring when the temps are not to cold. Since I walk to and from work I was curious how long I could get away with wearing this jacket without the addition of to many layers. Well with the exception of those two weeks(locals you remember), I've continued to wear it as my main jacket with normal base layers. It has repeled wind, mist, rain, and snow. The elbows have survived a few slips on the pavement with out any damage(don't ask). Over all it has been one of the best jacket I have bought. You could save a few ounces buy spending much more, but unless your trail racing whats the point ?!?

Comments about Marmot Ultima Jacket - Men's:
I got this to wear as a wind layer over a fleece and for that purpose it works great. On its own it’s not warm unless you are extremely active. The jacket is much thinner and not nearly as warm as other marmot softshells like the gravity or moran but seems to breath a little better. The fit has slightly longer sleeves than some other jackets. The quality is what I would expect from marmot. Overall a good softshell but if your looking for something warmer that breaths nearly as well I would suggest the gravity.

Comments about Marmot Ultima Jacket - Men's:
this jacket goes extremely well over a baselayer. design fits perfectly and very elegant. not very warm but sofshell jackets don't have to be! that's why you use those baselayers. over a smartwool base it's all i needed here in SF this winter. now (spring) i can use it over a oxt after sunset.
i really like this jacket. i have other two softshell jackets and this is my my best one.

Comments about Marmot Ultima Jacket - Men's:
I am pleased with the jacket's good looks, light weight, outstanding wind resistance, and moderate warmth. It's great for being out in temps over 20 degrees but, a little thin for much colder. A bit of layering under the jacket and it could really go farther below freezing.

Comments about Marmot Ultima Jacket - Men's:
I just received this jacket, thanks to the Holiday clearance and a nice gift card Christmas present. First of all, I love how Marmot jackets fit me, body length is long enough, long articulated sleeves and drop tail are great for me at 6'1" 190. While this jacket doesn't have Gore-Tex Windstopper, so far it has proven to be quite windproof. In mild wet weather, it shed water as expected. It is one Marmot's M2 softshell jackets, so I don't expect it to be "warm", but the soft fleece lining and wind blocking cocona material, have kept me warm in moderate conditions. I plan to use it quite a bit this spring ski season and for shoulder season hiking and have no doubt it will continue to live up to Marmot standards.

Comments about Marmot Ultima Jacket - Men's:
Let me first say that I did not buy this for use in moderate to high aerobic activity. I bought it for casual wear and to take the dogs and kids for walks at night in the cold AZ winter nights.
The jacket has a fitted cut and the size M fit my 6'0" 160lb frame perfectly. The gray on gray looked really cool, too. The sleeves are a bit on the long side, and I have longer arms (wear size 34 dress shirt). When I compared to the North Face Apex Bionic I found the fit of this Marmot to be superior - just right in the torso and not too long or too short. The North Face was too boxy and the Mountain Hardwears fit too short.
As for the jacket's performance, it does an excellent job at blocking wind. Not sure about water resistance (I live in Phoenix so didn't get a chance to find out.)
Now for the bad part....warmth. It's very thin and not too warm as soon as the temps get to about 50 degrees. I tested it out while wearing only this jacket and a long sleeve waffle knit t-shirt underneath. The jacket has a heavier denier where the material is darker, and this is a good thing for durability, but this heavier denier "holds" the cold more and I found this cold transferring through the thin lining and to my skin. Since the sleeves are exceptionally long, some part of them is always bunched up against your skin and the cold feeling on my arms drove me to distraction. So, I returned the jacket and I'm going to try the Marmot Afterburner fleece instead.
When Marmot says this jacket is for aerobic activity, they mean it. I'd bet that if I took it for a long jog or even for a ride on my road bike it'd be awesome for that. But, I just wanted it for casual wear and for strolling around, and for that it just doesn't cut it. Too bad the lining isn't about a half millimeter thicker. I really like all the eco-friendly qualities about it, too. The jacket also looks really, really good - especially if you're on the thin side.
