Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
This has got to be one the most over looked products in the headlamp market. Several well known magazines in the adventure world of hiking, climbing, and camping have failed to lend credence to this light. While in store at REI, I looked it over and it seemed to be bright and very well constructed, so I bought one. When I got home I compared it to my Surefire L4 and it was almost as bright!! The L4 is 100 lumens and costs alomst five times as much!! The housing is made of a much tougher plastic contruction than headlamps made by Princeton or Black Diamond. Well, needless to say, I am sold. No need to exercise the right to a 100% guarantee on this one.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
It's got a really unique design from other headlamps I've seen. Instead of snapping on different filters for spot/diffuse or color chips, all you have to do is rotate the outer lens. The outer lens has a spot, diffuse and red zone. So changing modes is a really easy! Search for a video of it on youtube. I have Petzl headlamp which use the snapping on method to change colors, but I lost the pieces because they are so small. The Petzl ones also make you swap the outer lens which is nearly impossible with gloves on. This headlamp is also actually water proof! A lot of the other headlamps I have seen are water resistant, but not proof. All of the electronics are sealed with an O-ring at one end.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
Great design, no filters to swap. No hinges to loosen. Big, burly on/off button. Can be used as a mini lantern. Nice to see out-of-the-box thinking in the stagnate headlamp market.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
this is a great lamp for the price. If you're looking for a durable and waterproof lamp then this is the one to get. I use it everywhere from snowboarding at night to bombing hills on the longboard during the summer. It's also very useful if you have a power outtage and you need to find yourself around.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
Two brightness levels and the red, diffused, and spot settings make this headlamp very versatile. I think that a red setting without having to bother with snap-on filters is a HUGE plus. The design is quite innovative, and while it's larger than other headlamps on the market, it doesn't feel bulky while being worn. The 0.5 watt bulb is definitely bright enough for night hiking. I am still getting used to changing between settings (don't always remember which way to twist), but that should become second nature with more use.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
The only issue I have with this is the red is not very bright. I know the point is to save your night vision, but the red is not bright enough to hike with.
The headband is stretchy enough that I am able to get it over my shoulders so that I wear the light around my waist when hiking.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
This light is fantastic! The fact that it's waterproof and you can rotate the lense to choose from intense, dispersed and red for night vision makes this the best head torch I have seen especially in this price range. You can spend more on another light but you will still be hard pressed to find one that will match the quality, features and battery life of this one. I purchased two of these one for me and one for my wife. My wife has not had a chance to use it yet but my buddy and I did a total of 30 miles hiking in Big South Fork over a weeks time and the batteries in both of them lasted the entire trip.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
This little lamp is rugged, bright and capable - things we all wish we could be.
On a recent multiday sailing race neither rain, getting hosed by waves nor long use could kill it - often it was one of the few working lights on the boat. The integral red/diffuser lens rotates in and out of position with a twist, and moving the light up and down is easily done with one hand. All operations can be done with gloves on.
The lamp provides a lot of light but isn't a xenon paint-peeler. You may not land an airplane with it (or maybe you will - I bring mine in the cockpit) but you'll be glad you have it. I own a couple of Petzl lamps among others, and this is the one that always finds its way into my pack.
As mentioned in another review, the light switching sequence is a little counter-intuitive (one-handed red/diffuser lens rotation can be managed with a little practice) but that's the only quirk in an otherwise splendid product.
Underwater Aquatics has grossly under-marketed this little gem.

Comments about Underwater Kinetics Vizion Headlamp:
Having used this light on multiple hikes, backpacking trips, and climbing trips, I have to say it is one of the best pieces of equipment I've ever owned.
Much of the headlamp market is filled with near-identical clones that differ only in LED and battery types, but the Vizion is a rare example of innovation.
Pros:
-----
-Waterproof, durable cylindrical casing. This thing looks and feels extremely solid, and there are no hinges or moving switches to break.
-Everything is integrated into one sleek unit; there are no interchangeable filters or tiny screws to lose.
-Extremely adjustable.
* Three filter modes (spot white, diffuse white, diffuse red). Both white modes are great for night hikes/climbs; the LED is bright and the diffuser does its job well. The red is awesome for around-the-campsite use (it doesn't blind others as much and helps preserve night vision).
* Two beam levels (high and low).
* Angle adjustment (up to down).
-Comfortable as hell. The weight all but disappears on my head, thanks to the snug casing that stays close to the head and the wide, comfortable headband.
-Uses widely-available AAA batteries. There are great rechargeables out there, including the newer low-discharge NiMHs (eneloops, Duracell Pre-charged, etc.).
-Big, tactile on-off button.
Cons:
-----
-Adjustment knob for filters requires two hands to operate -- you have to keep one hand on the center part of the casing while twisting the knob. It's too tight for one-handed adjustments. Not a big problem, as I usually just set the mode prior to an activity and then let it be. The angle knob, on the other hand, is smooth and easily adjustable.
-Lantern mode, while neat in concept, isn't terribly useful in practice. The unidirectional light is good for lighting up a specific area, but I usually use lanterns in the center of a group to light up a circle around the area we occupy. The Vizion can't do that.
-The beam power adjustment via the on-off button is a bit counter-intuitive. It goes high-off-low-off instead of high-low-off. It's not that easy to tell the two levels apart, so it might take a few cycles of practice to be able to accurately gauge the lamp's current power level.
Conclusion:
-----------
The overall usability and durability of the headlight far outweighs its minor flaws. It's quickly grown to be my favorite lightsource and I now carry it with me on every evening/night trip I take.
