He loved them.l
Comfy, light, and the mud banged off well. But my 9 yo soccer guy delaminated the sole from the shoe during recess soccer over a period of 4 months -- before he outgrew them or those elastic lace things broke! Not up to Merrell standards. (but REI stands behind their products)

Interesting that I had an experience similar to the other reviewer. I bought these for my six year old. Within four months, he decimated the interior lining and the exterior sole. I finally took them back to REI when the speed laces broke on the left shoe.

The staff at Rancho Cucamonga was fantastic and replaced them on the spot by looking up my purchase in their system - aI didn't have my paper receipt anymore. Shoe - bleh. REI - Woohoo!!!

      My four year old is on his second pair. He loves them, they very comfy and provide ample room for a nice wide foot. He loves them and I will buy another pair. I haven't had any of the wear issues mentioned above. In fact, I've used the first pair for my younger son. so they're getting another use.
