This high-buoyancy PFD made with eco-conscious, sustainable materials is designed for comfort and performance on the water.

Organically grown, hand-cleaned kapok material is sealed in a lightweight, radio-frequency welded pillow for durable and gently conforming flotation
Kapok, sometimes called vegetable down, is a silky fiber from the Bombocaceae tree and is prized for its moisture resistance and buoyancy
Sustainably harvested, kapok fiber is recyclable after a long life of service—simply cut open flotation bladder and empty into compost pile
Recyclable polyethylene foam is used in the back panel for its light weight and impact protection
Smooth-fitting design features AstraTex® fabric; along with soft, fold-resistant neoprene shoulder straps
AstraTex is a lightweight hydrophobic fabric that is durable and highly resistant to fading
Low-cut neckline and narrow chest-lines help eliminate chafing and improve mobility
Generous handwarmer pockets offer respite from chilly winds; large, semi-dry zippered chest pocket secures small items
Low-profile, recyclable polyethylene foam back helps protect and cushion; adjustable side straps and waistband with side-release buckle secures fit

Comments about Astral Buoyancy Norge PFD:

I've had the Norge for a few years. I've been very happy with it, great construction, comfortable fit, and of course who can argue with fleece lined handwarming pockets. I also found that the large really fits a wide range of people, making it great as a loaner PFD.

I was really pleased when I saw that REI was going to carry Astral products. You usually don't see Astral except for a few select high end shops. Everything thing they make has been thought out and purposefully designed. The Norge was the first Astral PFD that I picked up, now I have the Norge, Aquavest 300, and Otter for the kids.

The only thing that I did not like about the Norge was that the back panel rode a bit low and would catch on the edge of the cockpit in the kayak. Otherwise this is a great product worth every dollar.

Its a great PDF, very comfortable and it makes you willing to wear it all day. Having 3 zippered pockets to stuff essentials into is very handy. I've had it for years and it has no wear and takes a beating. Only complaint is when portaging a canoe the shoulder adjustment strap buckle is right on the front edge of my shoulder making it dig in with the yoke pad. Tolerable but a definitely a nuisance.
