Seemed like it would fit in store but kept riding up in the front. Maybe would have been fine with continued use but I was also initially told that if I signed up for the membership, it would cost 30 bucks but I could use the 30 gift card you get on my purchase. That was not true so I spent 30 on a membership and then you get a gift card to use the day after and up to like a month or 2 after. It expires. So overall a disappointment and I ended up returning the jacket.
I returned the Astral EV-Eight PFD since I bought it at the same time as the Stohlquist Trekker (unfortunately the Trekker is not carried by REI). I am so glad I did a back to back comparison of the EV-Eight to the Trekker, as the Trekker was better in every way. Both PFDs have a mesh lower back so the PFD does not interfere with your kayak seat back, but the difference stops there. The Trekker's foam is curved to fit better again your body and the edges are tapered to prevent interference with your kayak movements so you don't see the PFD and almost don't feel it while on the water. This difference in the Trekker means the properly shaped side foam of the Trekker does not interfere with your paddle stroke whereas the EV-Eight rubbed against my arms making it very uncomfortable and even red since the EV-Eight's foam was too bulky on the sides. The Trekker also has better strap adjustments, with an extra angled front strap. If you google images of both PFDs, you can see the difference in the straps and how the Trekker's side foam does not wrap as far back on the sides. I even got the Stohlquist Cruiser for my wife, the Trekker model but for women, where the front foam is curved with cups to accommodate women's chest shape. We both have said, while out on the water, with the Stohlquist PFD's, we forget they are there until we look down to get a water bottle. I think that is the best compliment for a PFD. I hope REI will start carrying the Stohlquist Trekker and Cruiser models. I like the Trekker far better than my NRS Ninja, which is now a spare PFD in the my closet.
