Comments about JanSport Firewire Computer Bag:
This computer backpack is great unless it rains. Then it leaks like a sieve. A backpack made to protect an expensive piece of electronics should at least be water resistant but this one is not.

Good, big, laptop backpack. Holds my 15" laptop and lots of other stuff. I use it almost daily to carry my laptop and files back and forth to work. I also use it on business trips - on such trips I carry a lot of files and misc. travel items - headphones, sweatshirt, day planner, toiletries - it's more or less a carry-on bag for me. I've had it since October (2008) and there are no signs of wear - even with the heavy load that I carry in it. (My last laptop bag died from the weight). Looks good too. It's professional enough for business, and yet looks fine on the trail too - it doubles as my daypack.
Observations: It might be nice with more compartments, but some bags have many useless compartments - this one is more flexible. The straps are a bit funny - they seem too short or something when you're putting it on your back. But once the bag is on your back, no worries - it's comfortable. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but with REI standing behind their products, I can easily justify it.
When I was comparing bags at REI, I brought my old bag loaded with its typical contents. This Jansport Firewire bag was the clear choice once I tried some of the bags loaded and on my back. Many others were just too small or had useless tiny compartments of felt uncomfortable.
Overall, I highly recommend it. I'd give it 4.5 stars if that were an option.

This bag protects a laptop very well, and carries a huge load of campus essentials. However, the shoulder straps are obviously designed for a high schooler or a very small adult, and not a taller adult.

Traveled to eastern Europe and brought my 2008 MacBook Pro along for the ride and a Nikon D90 camera. Both of them came home without a scratch or bump thanks in large part to this backpack. Only bummer was that the front chest snap broke, but I hardly use that anyway. The padding took care of the goods, whether walking, hiking, or stowed away on a train or plane.
