Comments about ExOfficio Buzz Off Paisley Bandana:
myself and two friends toured Alaska in August, on motorcycles. We camped out each night. I was amaized that I was not bitten once in 3 weeks, even though we were swarmed by all kinds of insects. I am taking the bandannas with me to Thailand this summer. Love them.

Comments about ExOfficio Buzz Off Paisley Bandana:
I bought three of these as my sons' school just bought a gorgeous new property and moved there... and it is crawling with ticks in our region where Lyme disease is endemic.
There is very little Buzz Off or Insect Shield clothing available for children, and the cost is prohibitive when items come home too dirty to wear twice on a daily basis. I considered buying permethrin chemical and dipping children's clothing items myself, but I was also reluctant to have so much chemical in direct contact with my kids' skin five days a week.
My compromise was to purchase three of these bandanas. My first grader can tie one bandana around each of his ankles to stop ticks from finding their creepy way up his legs. (He is supposed to have his pants tucked in to his socks, too.)
The third bandana, I cut into four equal strips. I've hemmed the edges of these strips, now about 5" wide and 22" long, and added a strip of velcro to make two pairs of "ankle wraps" for the boys. I'll probably do the same trick with the other bandanas so we have more back up pairs to keep in the school cubby and in the car. (Kids forget stuff!) This way, the tick-killing fabric is down near the ankles where I think it does the most good, but the treated fabric sits on top of the regular pants, hopefully keeping any unbound chemical away from their skin.
Other parents have asked me about these wraps since several ticks have already been found on classmates in our few weeks at the new site. A commercial version of this permethrin-treated ankle wrap idea would sell amongst the parents I know, at least!
I thought about buying two of the permethrin treated Buffs REI sells for each kid, but each buff costs twice as much as one bandana which can wrap four ankles... and the kids are bound to lose them at some point.
These bandanas are by far the most cost effective way to use permethrin-treated fabric without touching the chemicals directly yourself (and the permethrin is much more hazardous while still in liquid form, I understand, than bound to fabric.)

Comments about ExOfficio Buzz Off Paisley Bandana:
Grabbed a light olive Buzz Off bandana from REI HB for a backpacking overnighter in orange county backcountry at Crystal Cove State Park. No problems with any of the buzzers around the trails, worn around neck and over the head.
A bit pricey for just a bandana, especially since you could buy your own permethrin clothing treatment and a sack full of cheap bandanas... but worth the time and convenience saved for a few treated bandanas.

Comments about ExOfficio Buzz Off Paisley Bandana:
The fabric was stiff, even after washing to remove possible sizing. Because of the stiffness, the bandana could not be tied with a small knot. The bandana when tied around my neck was too tight and uncomfortable to wear in 90 degree weather. I tried wearing it pirate style on my head, but it didn't breathe well and my hair became dripping wet with perspiration.
It does repel the flies, mosquitos and no-see-ums. I can enjoy reading on my patio for over three hours without a single bug bite! I lay the bandana on top of my head, or on my lap, but I wish I could wear it as a traditional bandana - It needs to be at least 2 inches wider to be able to tie loosely for air circulation. Then it would be useful for working in the garden.

Comments about ExOfficio Buzz Off Paisley Bandana:
I wear this bandana on my head every time I am on the trail. I have one for cutting the grass. My hair is very thin and my scalp always gets burned. This is the perfect solution. I wear it like a pirates bandana- I don't care how I look on the trail or in the yard. I care that the bugs and sun don't get the best of me. Wearing this bandana also keeps the sweat out of my eyes.

This bandana is perfect for our beagle dog to wear on hikes. The fabric is a bit stiff, but she doesn't seem to mind. It's been effective at keeping the mosquitos and ticks at bay.

This works really well with nats that love to fly right in front of your face while hiking or in the garden. If you dont feel like wearing it just attach it to your backpack and it works great, I've also washed it once so far and it really still works. Great idea I've bought them for my whole family and they love it as well. Comes in great colors, worth the money too

These work pretty good here in the south but they don't even slow down the mosquitos or little flies in Alaska. I actually think I got bitten through one!

Comments about ExOfficio Buzz Off Paisley Bandana:
I use one on my yellow lab when outdoors to keep the bugs off him and one for myself to keep the mosquitoes away from my head. They work really well. We live in Alaska by a bog and go there daily to walk the trails. In the early summer the mosquitoes are thick and these bandanas are great for keeping us free and clear of bites.
