I do a lot of riding(roady) and due to various reasons have had several flats lately. I carry at least one spare tube with me at all times. For unforseen events I have had a few occasions where these patches have gotten me home or to a bike shop to pick up a new tire/tube. These patches are by no means meant to hold up to long rides, meant to hold high psi, or meant to prevent you from spending another 8 dollars for a new tube. IMO I find it a bit silly that people have thought other wise. Really? If you are running a hi-psi tire with a gouge and want something to keep the tire from pushing through pick up some plastic rim tape. The stick on type that was meant for running tubles. Very handy for saving expensive tires.

Had a goat head puncture my tube. Needed a fix as my last patch kits glue had dried up. Saw these and figured I'd give them a shot to see if they were a simpler solution. Put the patch on as directed and let it sit good and long to make extra sure. Inflated the tire and left it to make sure it held before reinstalling it. Came back two hours later and it was flat. Checked to make sure I hadn't missed a second leak and saw that the air was coming from the patched area. Removed the patch, cleaned, and did this all over again. Same scenario. Returning to REI. DO NOT BUY. *Photo is taken after the tire has been inflated and then subsequently deflated due to the patch not holding. It looks as if the glue that holds the patch on stretches and then leaves the thin plastic film bunched up. Bad design and just too flimsy for any real use.

Pre-Glued Patches are a Temporary Fix, ONLY!

I used this to fix a puncture on a low pressure mountain bike tire. It got me home but next day, it was flat. I found it leaking at the patch so I peeled it off and applied another. Again, next day it was flat. I contacted "Slime" and the rep told me that they are intended as a temporary patch, only, to which I pointed out that the label never said that. I continue using regular patch kits with glue which always work. I'd rather spend the extra few minutes waiting for the glue to dry instead of having to redo everything a few hours later.

Not worth the money

I bought these as an alternative to buying new tubes over and over again. They are useless. I used one complete patch kit to fix one hole in my tube. They never seemed to stick very well and within hours, my tire was flat again. I remember as a kid getting a patch kit where you got glue that you actually lit on fire to help the rubber patch vulcanize to the tube. Now THAT was a tube repair kit. Those patch kits lasted forever and were very reliable. This "new" technology just can't compare to the old school technique. Save your money. If you have a hole, buy a new tube.

Partially successful

Following the directions, I used these patches on 6 different punctures for my family's bicycles. The patches had a success rate of 66% when 2 of the 6 patches failed the day after repair. Inner tubes that had a larger diameter were the ones that failed. It was clear the adhesive is not strong enough when some of the inner tubes are inflated and expand to their inflated size. These patches are convenient but I feel more secure in more traditional repair products with strong adhesives applied to patches.

These are absolutely useless and almost cost me my ride. I rode Carmel to San Luis Obispo. I accidentally grabbed a tube that didn't work with my rims. So, I resorted to the patches. When you inflate the tire, these patches don't have any stretch to them. They also peel off when the tire is inflated. Fortunately, a stranger gave me his tube. These are worse than useless!

Definitely not for high pressure tires!!!

I’ve had this fortune of purchasing and using this kit. Patches blew out on both my mountain bike (50 psi) and road bike (80 psi) tubes wIthin minutes to hours of repair and reinstallation. Kit was new. Truly a waste of time and effort. I’m going back to the more difficult but reliable patch + glue.

Bike Tire Patches

The only reason I gave it a 1 is I couldn’t put 0. Worst product on the market. Does not hold one bit. I’m surprised REI sells such an inferior product.

Waste of time and money

I have used been unable to get the scabs product to fix a leak for more than 5 minutes. The glue simply isn't strong enough to hold the patch in place once the tire is re-pumped. I would score this product a 0 if that was possible. This product is very disappointing.

Save Your Money!

The patches are made of thin plastic which only lasts a few days. Spend the extra money and get patches that are rubber. I didn't know that the patches were plastic until I took the tube out after it deflated after installing the skab.
