Comments about Mountain House Rice and Chicken:

The other reviews on this product are a bit unjustly critical, it seems to me. The chicken chunks are small, and there is a lot of sodium, but high salt content is fine when you're trying to stay hydrated. The flavor is good, and if you add a touch of tabasco or ground red pepper (always carry one of these!), it's a very tasty meal. And like all the Pro Pack line, it's very filling and keeps you going on tough trails.

Comments about Mountain House Rice and Chicken:

this is my favorite mountain house meal. it is important to note that it is mostly rice, but it doesnt claim to have large chicken breasts. all of these meals have lots of salt (necessary for preservatives). i think the taste is great so give it a try

This was pretty good, but it's really just rice with lots of chicken broth and a few bits of chicken. It was really filling and kept me full through the evening (I did also have a s'more though). Pretty yummy!

Comments about Mountain House Rice and Chicken:

I'm very limited on the type of Mtn House foods I can buy due to a sensitive tummy and I am happy to say that this chicken and rice meal will become a backpacking staple for me. I agree with the others that it was very light on the chicken chunks but it tasted delicious anyways, like a salty rice a roni. I needed the salt after a long day of backpacking on a hot, shadeless trail.. I would recommend the teriyaki chicken if you are looking for a meal with more chicken and veggies.

Comments about Mountain House Rice and Chicken:

I had this specific meal for the first time at 9,300' this past weekend. I like the smaller serving size - I was almost able to finish the whole thing. It's a simple meal of rice and chicken, reminding me of chicken and rice soup. It is heavy on the rice but I think it had a nice balance of small chicken chunks. I don't eat much while climbing and I don't find things very appetizing, so I was surprised by how tasty this meal was. Preparation is easy, add water and let it sit. The zippered package is nice for packing out the contents as well, ensuring that nothing spills in my pack. I'll definitely be getting this for my future climbs.

Comments about Mountain House Rice and Chicken:

We found this meal quite tasty, and the pro packs are a good amount of food and pack well. Adding extra water and letting the meal "sit" longer than the instructions called for was helpful. The meal started out very hot (it helped to have a bandana to use to insulate our hands from the hot package), and stayed warm almost to the end -- we were eating in temperatures in the mid 50's. We added a bit of olive oil to improve the flavor and add calories.

Comments about Mountain House Rice and Chicken:

This is a reasonable tasting backpacking food. It is a regular for me. Be sure to add the full amount of water or a little more. Must stir the corners to be sure you do not get hard rice. Don't short the soak time. The zip seal is not great be careful if you squeeze to stir.

Comments about Mountain House Rice and Chicken:

Simply horrible. When they say RICE and chicken they mean a whole lot of RICE and a couple of bits of mystery chicken stuff.

As stated before - this was loaded with sodium which did nothing for the taste.
