Tastes like homemade
Tastes just like it was homemade but without all the dishes, time, and being in your home kitchen. One of my favorite meals because it's high protein for those long hikes, backpacking trips, or climbing days.
Had sharp pieces in it.
The taste is o.k but what ruined it for me was at the end of the bag I found sharp pieces that I almost cracked my tooth on. I have no idea what these were, the texture/color was kind of like bone. I have included a picture of them.
Yummm
Like other reviewers have said, this tastes akin to chicken pot pie (tasty!). Most of it rehydrates/reheats well except for the dumplings -- friends and me with this meal resigned ourselves to saying they were crunchy 'flaky' biscuits in there, ymmv. When repackaging this for my bear canister I added a shake of garlic powder for good measure; it probably didn't need it, but it didn't hurt! This meal is on the lighter cal side, and since I ate it several days into a backpacking trip I definitely ate more that evening in addition to the meal. That's not a deal-breaker by any means though, as it's still tasty and enjoyable to eat.
Tasty Dinner
Go to meal (dinner) while on the trail. Plentiful servings and very tasty. Make sure you let it simmer in the boiling water a few minutes longer than recommended so the chicken can rehydrate fully.
Delicious!
Can't beat the quality of these meals. Comfort food after a long hike to camp.
This is so delicious.
I think it tastes like a chicken pot pie. I add rehydrated carrots, peas and celery. It doesn’t need anything I just like to jazz it up.
Tasty, but assure you use enough H2O & wait for it
We loved the flavor when it was fully hydrated. I think my son was skimpy on the water initially and didn't wait long enough initially, but when I added a little more boiling water and let it set for 4 more minutes it tasted great and he even liked them after that.
Delicious home-cooked meal!
We thought we'd give the Mountain House Chicken & Dumplings a try on a recent Boundary Waters canoe trip. We both agreed it tasted like a home cooked meal in the back country. The only advice we would give is to add a little more water than recommended and let it sit longer after the first stir. My meal had a few crunchy bits of dumplings (that look like croutons!) but it was fine.
Hit the Spot
This really hit the spot after a long day of cool, Autumn hiking. I liked the texture and the taste. It rehydrated well. I think this moved up the list and is now my favorite backpacking dinner. Looking forward to another hard day of backpacking so I can have another one these.
Tasty and filling
Our favorite meal on our backcountry camping and hiking trip at the Chisos. Simple, no fancy picture or exotic ingredients but hands down the best taste, consistency (not watery), and satisfaction power.
