Delicious
I love this beef stew. A little disappointed in Mountain House for making the package smaller, while retailers keep the price the same. I attached a photo of the old package. 4.3 oz was the old size. I do like that the packages can now be recycled. The recipe has changed, less sodium but I still think it tastes really good. Not ashamed to say I spent almost $50 on this beef stew last time I went grocery shopping. Wish it was a better deal to buy the cans.
What you would expect in a basic beef stew
A good and very basic beef stew. You won't be disappointed
Needs much longer "cook" time
When I first tried this after the recommended 5 minutes, it was awful. Barely any flavor, and the vegetables, especially the potatoes, were all very under-hydrated with a terrible texture, though the beef cubes were good. Letting it sit for another 5 improved it a little, and with another 5 (total of 15), it was solidly edible. There was finally some beef flavoring throughout, and the texture was pretty typical for freeze-dried meals, but it was still very underwhelming at best.
Good for one person on a active day
A good product. I don't know who sets the standards for two servings, but when hiking doing outdoors activities, these servings are more like a single.
Beware: recipe has changed
I used to love the MH Beef Stew. But recently, they changed not only the packaging, but the recipe as well. Including adding onions and garlic. And way too much salt. If you eat the entire meal (the package contains two servings), you're getting 1590 mg of sodium. Per the guidelines on the package, this is 69% of your daily allowance.
Fantastic!
I took this on a fall tent camping trip last year to Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. I had never had any of the Mountain House meals before, but it sounded good, so I decided to try it. Boy, was I happily surprised! It was fantastic, so much like homemade. I will be taking this agaon on future trips.
So nostalgic!
I think this meal is very good, but that might just be because of nostalgia. I have been eating this product since childhood, and I have never been disappointed. Is best with crackers.
Very good!
I just bought this today for lunch. I followed the instructions. It was a little runny but very tasty. The little bit of extra water would be for me no big deal. If your hiking, bikepacking, skiing or hunting etc, hydration is a big concern. So two thumbs up. I will purchase again.
Beef Stew 1st. time
I had decided to start purchasing long term meals and wanted to assure myself it was the right brand. I tried the beef stew and have bragged on it to everyone. Hands Down the best flavors ever. So now you can see what brand I have chosen
First dehydrated meal, pretty good!
This was my first dehydrated meal ever and i was surprised with how good it was! I added some fresh bacon that i had on hand, but even without it, the stew was pretty good. Made 2 good-sized portions.
