Comments about Hennessy Hammock Explorer Ultralight A-Sym Hammock:
I've been using a hammock for 2 years and am glad I took the plunge. I've used it in all four seasons sleeping to a low of 18*F. I prefer it over a tent for temps above 50*. Hammock forums is filled with tips to make your hammocking experience a good one.
This product is for the back country hiker more so than for the weekend car camping recreational user.
It packs very small and is much lighter than a mainstream tent.
It keeps you cooler in the summer than a tent.
It sets up on any grade of ground, flat or sloped.
The insect netting does a good job keeping the bugs off.
The fly is minimal. I upgraded the fly for more coverage.
It is a solo shelter.
Can set up without the fly if you want to see the stars.
There are no pressure points, so you don't wake up with numb arms or sore hips.
My hammock does not show any wear & tear even after two years of steady use.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Explorer Ultralight A-Sym Hammock:
It's wondefully lightweight and packs small. Additionally, you probably won't pack a sleeping pad so you save weight there too. Setup is fast and easy. I've been through some heavy rain and stayed perfectly dry. However, there are some big cons. If you sleep on your side and not your back it's very hard to get comfortable. The ground is much warmer. The wind strips away any body heat and even on warm nights I get cold. Ultimately, I think the pros outweigh the cons, but it's closer than other people make it out to be. I like a twenty pound pack, but a good nights sleep is crucial for recovery. Setup tips: trees need to be farther apart than you will initially think, put your feet slightly higher than your head so your weight doesn't open the door, use a colder weather sleeping bag, and take benadryl. If all else fails bring a pad and set it up low to the ground and use as a bivy.

You can sling this hammock in about two minutes in places no one would ever think of putting a tent, steep rocky hillsides, marshy ground, no problem - all you need is trees (or something sturdy) to tie it to. It is very dry since you are off the ground. It's remarkable comfortable, if a bit cozy. I use several small stuffsacks to keep things organized inside. The optional Snakeskins system is great - get it, and you'll need a full lenght Thermarest pad. No poles makes for easy packing. The brown color blends in with most any surrounding. It's light enough to carry on day trips for an afternoon snooze. Unfortunately there's only room enough for one.

On a circle island paddle in Hawaii this was the shelter used by several of my cohorts and I (ranging in body weight from 130lbs to 200lbs). It proved to be VERY simple and quick to set up even after a long day on the water. We stayed up off the rocks, out of the wet and away from the bugs. All things that make for the best possible night's sleep !The "snakeskins" add-on(available from the manufacturer) proved to be the best way to set them up for easy packing/unpacking even in the rain.Could be made better by allowing it to be used by two, but that is a minor flaw (they do have larger ones[...]).Leave the tent at home-this is lighter and more comfy !!!

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Explorer Ultralight A-Sym Hammock:
I never considered hammock camping because I did not think you could sleep in it. The Hennessy hammock's assymetrical design allows the user to lay diagonally and very nearly flat. After deciding to try it, I found that I sleep far better in the hammock than I ever have in a tent. It is light, easy to set up and is extremely comfortable. I have several good, thick inflatable ground pads (REI and Big Agnes) but the quality of sleep I get in the hammock is far better than any I get on the ground. This is a great piece of gear and has become my preferred method of camping whenever possible. It makes site selection much easier (where trees are present) and is truly 'leave no trace' camping. This product is very well designed and constructed.

I read all the reviews and couldn't wait to try it out on a cold night in Kings Canyon NP. 1st 3 hours were very comfy... using a sleeping pad as well. Comfy unitl you move! As the night continues you toss and turn the sleeping pad slipped to the side. I am 6 ft tall and sleeping flat is not true for me in this! Also entering and exiting is difficult. I will look to return this ASAP. If you are small maybe it works, but 6'+ tall forget it! At 2 am in Kings Canyon I pulled my sleeping pad & bag out of this and slept outside in 28 degree weather.

I used the Hennessy Hammock for the first time on a 30 mile section of the AT recently. I was a little scepticle but had been encouraged by a friend to try a hammock tent. I can not say enough good things about the ease of set up and the quality of the product. We camped on a 45 degree slope one night. An excellent one-man shelter that proved its worth.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Explorer Ultralight A-Sym Hammock:
Incredible innovation. Amazing product. Super light. Very compact. Three minute setup with a little practice, however, I found the instructions slightly confusing during a mock setup I did when I first got it. Specifically the figure-8 lashing and the alignment of the asymmetrical rainfly. Logic prevailed and I got it all setup correctly. (I think.) The webbing slid part-way down one tree when I first got into it so I strongly suggest double wrapping the trees. On my first trip the webbing wasn't long enough to double wrap one tree I had chosen so I omitted the webbing, double wrapped the rope and tied it tightly which worked well. Ties for tent and rainfly should be in about the same place. Be sure to buy stakes (4) as the manufacturer does not supply any. I froze on my first trip, 32°F at night with wind and light rain but I expect it to work perfectly for me in warmer more mild weather. Rain got in because I didn't have my rainfly tensioned correctly at first. (My mistake.) The tent was more drafty after I aligned the rainfly to better block the rain. Weight from my body compacted 0°F sleeping bag against tent bottom which allowed cold wind to suck away body heat. (A friend was borrowing my sleeping pad.) Hung shoes inside from carabiner. Hung backpack from rope around tree. The tree protected the backpack from the rain and nothing was on the ground. Sleep was comfortable at an angle across center as suggested in something I read.

I don't miss the ground at all. I sleep better in the woods now then I do at home.
It is lite weight a real easy to set up, all you need is two trees and your good to go. My friend and I each have one so it is easy to set up camp because we don't really need a camp ground, we can sleep anywhere.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Explorer Ultralight A-Sym Hammock:
I have had very good experiences with this hammock. I use it most while camping in a hanging valley on the north shore of Kauai (Hawaii), where it rains a lot, both in frequency and quantity. When set up well, you will stay completely dry no matter how hard it's raining. It can be a little tricky to set up, so practice a few times to get familiar with it before you go out into the field with it.
When setting up the hammock I suggest using a trucker's hitch on one end to pull it really tight, this will help prevent the hammock from sinking in the night. Another trick is to include an extra length of webbing/rope to hold up the rain fly. This will keep the fly in the right place and keep it from flapping around (which can be very noisy). I also recommend using a sleeping pad. This hammock can get surprisingly cold without one. A couple of my crew members have had horrible nights sleep due to poor set up or lack of sleeping pad.
All and all, great product. compact and light.
