The REI Member Dividend
The REI dividend is a unique benefit of membership in the REI co-op. It's comprised of your member refund—typically 10% back on eligible purchases—and/or your REI Visa® card rebates.
Each March, active REI members and REI Visa cardholders who earned a rebate receive a refund in the form of an annual dividend notice.
Only active members receive annual dividend notices. To maintain your active status as an REI member, you need to make net merchandise or shipping purchases of at least $10 per year, unless you joined that year. Member numbers are issued in one name and only that person receives the member refund. Your number can be used by others in your family, but it cannot be transferred to someone else.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip Hammock:
I purchased the ultralite backpacker, only wish the rainfly was slightly larger so you didnt have to keep it so snug to the hammock in order to stay dry in a down pour; otherwise, it's very comfortable, lightweight, easy to setup and take down -- especially on uneven ground. If you are much taller than 5'10" i would suggest the larger version. With the provided straps, there is practically no impact to the environment around you either.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip Hammock:
It took a couple of weeks to get in a backpacking Trip, although the lows dropped to 28 the night we camped, I couldn't wait any longer. This was not my first Hennessy Hammock, I moved up from the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter to the Hennessy Expedition Asym Zip to the Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip. It is light and compact and when paired with Snake Skins is quick to hang and pack up. If you are trying to go light, this is the one of your best choices for weight savings on the big three. I am able to sleep on my side comfortably and like that I can hang off the ground between two trees, which are plentiful in North Georgia.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip Hammock:
I am a first time hammock user and admit that I didnt think I would be able to sleep in this tent. But...the first time I slept in it I was surprised at how comfortable I slept. I find this hammock to be confortable, spacious and easy to enter/exit.
It took awhile to get used to hearing the bugs all around my head while I layed in the tent. I had to keep telling myself "they cant get me now".
The most difficult aspect of setting up this tent is finding trees that are the right distance. The hammock cord is long enough for most instances but the webbing provided are often not long enough to handle the diameter of common trees in the Sierras. I bring extra webbing to make sure I can handle wider trees. End of problem. Once the right trees are located set up is easy. Just be sure to make the hammock tight.
The down-side to this tent is the exposure to cold temperatures. In fact not even cold, cool. This has been such a frustration to me that I have considered returning the tent. A down bag seems problematic in this tent as the down insulation under you is compressed making insulation minimal and exposing your body to every slight breeze even in temps in the low 60s.
I have been using this tent for the summer in the Sierras and am still struggling with managing the warmth issue.
I would not call this a light weight tent because of the extras needed to manage the warmth issue. When I use this tent I bring my ground cloth and pad as backup (incase I get too cold and decide to sleep on the ground). I also use them as the underlayer insulation to add warmth while hanging in the air. I tie the ground cloth to the bottom of the tent (a klugey solution but it does help) then stuff my pad and extras in the space between the bottom of the hammock and the ground cloth tied to hug the bottom of the hammock. This works but makes the hammock tent unreliable because I still have not figured out how to ensure warmth in the Sierra's summer conditions.
Seems the best alternative is the Hennesy insulation kit which cost about $130 and adds 16oz, not to mention the additonal volume.
As for recommending this tent. I really like it but want to have a solution to the warmth issue without adding another pound, taking more space in my pack and paying over $100 for the solution. Net of it is this tent is still in my, I might return list.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip Hammock:
This Hammock is great for camping and it's fast set up time allows it to be used anywhere you might need to take a siesta.
It is designed with the needs of a single sleeper in mind, you probably will want to go with other arrangements if you are planning on sleeping 2 people; but for the minimalist, it's spot on.

As someone who has had lumbar spinal surgery, I am always having trouble sleeping, even at home in my $2000 bed! I used this hammock recently on a 5 night backpacking trip and will probably never use anything else again, unless I am somewhere with no trees to hang it. I've even thought about hanging it in the backyard to get some good sleep over the weekend! The overnight temps were fairly mild at 55-60, and I slept like a baby with just a light down quilt. It takes under 5 minutes to setup, and even less time to take down. The only issue I had was the stuff sack ripped one one of the seams when I was stuffing it back in the first time. No big deal, I'm planning on getting a small dry bag for it anyway. Overall, the best product I have purchased so far.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip Hammock:
I've been using a Hennessy for a couple of years for just about anything except snow camping. Living in Texas, a hammock is the best way to get a good night's sleep when camping.
I used one on a 100mi solo trek in the Rockies last summer w/o any problem and it was nice to be able to rapidly setup a minimal impact "stealth" camp where ever I stopped. I usually made a point of camping below tree-line and had no problem finding good sites even as high as 11,000. The fact you're off the ground opens the possibility of using camp sites that you'd never be able to use with a tent.
A couple of tips: use a separate ridge line for the fly (else it will sag), use a ridge rest or some form of under-blanket if the temperature is below 60-70F, treat the bottom with permethrin once a year to keep mosquitos from biting you through material. From March-October (in Texas), I usually just use a military surplus poncho liner and forgo a sleeping bag.
Practice setting up at home before setting out and take a few naps in one to get used to the swaying motion.
Hammock newbies complain about not being able to sleep their first time out. It takes some getting used to but gentle sway tends to rock me to sleep. I'm usually sound asleep in 2 min.
Tie the fly low and tight if the weather turns rainy. I weathered out a pretty good storm camping in east-Texas last spring and stayed high & dry when the rest of the campsite was soggy.
When backpacking keep the fly handy and use it to setup a quick shelter.
I will likely buy another one or two of these soon for my sons for a trip we're planning.

I look forward to any time I can use my hammock instead of my tent because it's just so fun! I'm warmer in the hammock (long as I use my undercover) & more comfortable than I would be on a sleeping pad on the ground. Look up videos online to see how easy it is to set-up and use accessories.

Comments about Hennessy Hammock Ultralite Backpacker Asym Zip Hammock:
This was ok for the first night or two, but I didn't sleep a lot in it. After a few nights out it got old. It's not very good for sleeping on your side or stomach and it's a total pain to adjust your sleeping bag. Getting out and back in for a mid night bathroom break is no fun. It works, it's super light and easy to setup, but it isn't nearly as comfortable as a tent and a thick pad. If weight is all you care about then it's great. If you happen to be canoeing through a recently burned down forest with very few trees, you'll end up sleeping on the ground.
